I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

As much as I love JP, I would have to wait a year or two, just to see how well is hires are doing.

I think that is a fair assesment since most of his hire were so early in his contracted years. But you also cant agrue against the excitment that has been instilled into this university again because of the work he has done. It's a toss up, but with still having three years left on his contract, I would have to wait as well.

JP definitely has ISU headed in the right direction. However, we're not there quite yet. Lets give it a year (after another FB and BB season) and start talking.

Give the extension ASAP to send the message to "the next step" donors that Jamie will be here to see the project through.

...and if his project goes to the sewer? Send the message that we're "stuck" with him? I'd rather see something pan out first.

For the simple fact that he saved the basketball program from Wayne Morgan he needs to be extended.

Bruce never had any major projects unless you call cutting baseball and firing Larry Eustachy then having a long coaching search end in hiring Wayne Morgan projects. Bruce never went out on a limb much which is why athletics were so stagnent under him.

Game, set and match to Travman! I'm with the posters above who say give JP a raise.

That was kind of my point. Even if Pollard's plans fail miserably we are no worse off than we were before he got here.

Re: Pollard contract extension discussed at ISU

I don't see how you can't extend it. While all the hires are new, Pollard has done what so many AD's stuggle and fail to do...

Increase ticket sales amidst losing. Most expected the hoops season last year to be a rough one, yet sales were up. While many fans were frustrated with '04 and '05 football - sales were up in '06.

Even with the coaching change - it's hard to increase sales after a 4-8 football season. Not only are sales up - ISU has shattered a previous season ticket record and it's only May.

So much excitement without winning. That's not easy to do - yet Pollard has generated that.

Extend his contract and send around a big "Thank You" card for everyone to sign.

PS. While yer at it ISU, extend our President's contract too.

Re: Pollard contract extension discussed at ISU

I agree, a minor extention of 2-3 years seems in order. And maybe a little bit of pay boost - although he seems pretty well compensated at $275 with a 4%yearly bump and a $75K yearly kicker.

But one can't argue with the season ticket record marks in both of his first two seasons at the helm. The excitment (although unproven results) of the coaching hires in the two premier programs, and a 2nd place national meet and huge hire in the wrestling program. And retaining Fennelly (not that I feared he was going anywhere) is a big + as well. I'm also trying to keep an eye on the minor sports. CJ was a tremendous hire for the volleyball program. The only neg I have with JP is I think he's raising the financial bar a little too high, a little too fast (JMO) and I'm really upset that he let KJ get away from the gymnastics program - but I can't say what could've been done instead. That one was just unfortunate and I would've loved to have been a fly on the wall to hear how that unfolded.
