    One thing that comforts me...

I've remained rather silent on all of this over the last few days. I apologize for that. This is just such an important and touchy issue. I don't want to write something based off of emotion that any of you would take as fact. Know what I mean?

I guess I woke up this morning and am needing to get a lot off of my chest.

I love Iowa State. Other than my family, this website and university mean more to me than anything in the world. It is my life. So obviously, I am going to be very passionate about this whole scenario.

But honestly, like you, I am not on the "inside" of this thing. A very select few are. So it all comes down to taking an educated guess as to what will happen.

    ......Again...I don't know.

The one thing that somewhat comforts me about Iowa State's future is Jamie Pollard.

Sure...he has his critics. But Jamie Pollard has done SO MUCH during his time at Iowa State.

The athletic budget is exponentially higher than it was the day he got here. The last I hear, it was nearly 60 percent higher. Iowa State has a football coach in Paul Rhoads who I believe can take this program to heights it has never seen before. That's with the right resources of course. I don't know if Fred Hoiberg is going to be a good coach. But I am extremely confident that he's going to bring talent to Ames like we haven't seen in a long time. Bill Fennelly is IMO one of the best WBB coaches in America. Iowa State is a top 25 school in the Director's Cup.

Does the Director's Cup matter in this instance no? But my point is, Pollard has done things during his time in Ames that many once thought was impossible.

The one thing I've learned about this man over the last five years is to expect the unexpected.

He's always three or four steps ahead of us.

Will Jamie Pollard save the Big 12? The answer to that question is no.

But what comforts me is that if the Big 12 falls apart, which I think is a very real possibility, I have a hard time believing that Pollard and his crew didn't plan for the worst, five months ago.

Now in the end, Iowa State might not end up in a major conference. But at the same time, I trust Jamie Pollard. Maybe this is faith that I shouldn't have. I don't know. But I do know that Pollard and the current "heavy hitters" in the Iowa State athletic department don't have a loser's mentality.

When I was at CycloneNation.com five years ago, we always discussed how Iowa State needed to change the culture in Ames.

"Think like a winner. Expect the best."

Our fan base was very vocal with their thoughts on Greg McDermott. Cyclone fans were not going to accept a losing program.

In my opinion, the culture has been changed in Ames. I credit Jamie Pollard for that.

I trust Iowa State's administration. So right now, I know it is easy to freak out. This is a scary time.

No. Jamie Pollard cannot control a lot of what is going on right now. But I have a hard time believing that he has just been sitting back in his chair watching everything unfold for the last few months.

    In before the JP haters.

For the record, I also would want nobody besides JP and GG directing our future.

See, that's just ridiculous. Why do you assume there will be "haters"? Even the JP detractors mostly admit that he has been a positive as far as revenue goes. Whether you disagree with his transfers letter or whatever shouldn't determine if you are a JP hater or not.

I think a very large majority of the fan base is very happy with JP and feel comfortable with him at the helm.

I also am glad that GG and Pollard are here. I think Jischke might have been a little too shrewd and would have talked a lot more than GG. It's nice to have respectful and quiet leadership when its necessary.

I like JP and PR. I don't think either of them matter in this and I don't think either have any control of it.

I just want this over and to know what is going to happen with ISU.

Chris, I also love what JP has done for ISU ATHLETICS. But this is bigger than that. Conference affiliation affects many, many things beyonds sports. ADs SHOULDN'T be in the drivers seat here.

Frankly, I've gone from not caring about this issue to being very angry about the whole situation. I have a vested interest in the well-being of my school. The game of football shouldn't decide the future of institutions.

Re: One thing that comforts me...

I just can't believe that JP has been sitting and watching this whole thing. I know everybody is going to say what is he supposed to do, and I get that. I don't think he can do much, but does anyone have any idea if he is calling other ADs, or working any viable scenario for ISU to stay in a BCS conference?

Re: One thing that comforts me...

Agree with you. I already wrote in my posts in different threads that I trust our AD and our decision makers to do their best. I believe that there are certain things we can control and certain things we can't control. Smart people (like JP) always find ways to make the best out of everything, no matter how bleak things are.

One Fanatic asked whether we'd like to be 7-5 in Big 12 or 10-2 in MAC. I take 7-5 in Big 12, but if we end up in MAC, I'd definitely want 10-2 instead of 7-5.

I have two ahead of JP and GG:

    1. Dosry
    2. Azn4cy
    3. JP and GG

Dosry would do anything to appease the appropriate parties. And I do mean anything. Azn, not sure what he would do but I am sure it would be effective. Then JP and GG.

    Fair point.

At this point, every AD/President etc. out there is essentially a politician, pleading for his or her school.

If it actually comes down to that, I like where we are at.

I don't want to be mean, but do you seriously think JP's phone lines aren't melting right now?

The receiver is probably stuck to the man'e ear.
