Thumbs down Mediacom internet slowness - WDSM

Anyone in WDSM been having incredibly slow internet the past 1-2 weeks with Mediacom as your ISP? I've always been really pleased with the service but it's been brutal for about 10 days now.

While on live TV, Ford used a vulgar term to describe a private part of the female anatomy, adding that he was “happily married” and “got more than enough to eat at home.”

Haven't really noticed. But my router has been freezing up once or twice a day. Can't tell if it's the router itself going south, or maybe something with the service jamming it up.

But I got this new whole house DVR (2 tvs) about 3 weeks ago and I'm about ready to throw the damn thing though the door. What a piece of crap.

On hold with them as we speak.

According to the rep, my package says I should get "up to" 12 down, 1 up.

While I don't personally have Mediacom, guy I work with does and I was there today and it was slow today, not to mentioned the internet just up and died unexpectedly twice.

I second that. Mediacom's DVRs are terrible. They are supposed to rewind (or replay as they call it now) 2 hours back but I have had times that it only rewinds 30 seconds.

What is it you don't like about the whole house DVR? I was thinking about getting it.

    I love the concept -

But so far it just isn't working. Tons of little hiccups and a few major ones.

Tonight - have Deadliest Catch scheduled as a series - have for weeks. Decided it didn't feel like recording tonight apparently. It's right there on the menu to be recorded. No recording.

Last week watching DC. It kept stopping and restarting the recording. Ended up with 4 separate recording totalling the hour show.

Then about two weeks ago, my wife has a series recording for Saving Grace... you know, on TNT. Well even though all the info says Saving Grace, right date time and such, it records the NHL playoffs.... on NBC.

Other other common hiccup is if you rewind a bit. Then try an use that little 15 second "jump back" button... often it gets caught in a loop. FFW doesn't work. LIVE doesn't work. Only way to get out of it is to change channels and they you loose that buffer if you aren't recording.

Love being able to share between tvs. But it's got some serious issues.

Oh yeah. I'd like to delete this episode of Cheers the tech used to test it. But it's hell bent on keeping it.

When it comes to DVR's I actually prefer to just have a computer with a tuner connected to cable. I use a mac mini (Hard Drive upgraded to 750GB) with an EyeTV attached using their software. If you want to watch TV and record something at the same time, split the connection, run a cable to the computer w/ tuner, and then the other connection goes to the TV.

I'm in WDM and haven't had trouble with my Mediacom internet. But hearing about your problems with the Mediacom DVR's, I am glad that I decided to stick with my TiVO subscriptions for a while. Never have had a problem with Tivo.

Only problem ive had with mediacom internet lately is that the modem has been sporadically dropping my connection for 15-20 minutes at a time several times a day. I know its not my router as i can still access it.

Big problem i'm having with mediacom- they can't figure out how to work with cable cards worth crap. Still dont have the new hd channels they added a few weeks back.

Do you have tivo hd? if so, did you get the new channels when they added them (comedy central hd and such)?

I was having a problem similar to this a few months back it turned out there was some interference with the router going on. I needed to change the channel it was using and the problem was fixed. Might be worth looking into.

yeah, ive had that issue, but when you have that you'd typically not be able to use your wireless at all due to the interference. i can access the other computers on my network and my router settings. However when it drops i cannot view the modem diagnostics at 192.168.100.1

No, I have my Tivo through the regular cable connection, not the hd box. So if I am recording, I am recording in standard definition. But then I can watch the hd stuff live.

Most of the stuff I am recording, it doesn't matter if I have hd.

Re: Mediacom internet slowness - WDSM

mine was really slow about 2 weeks ago, especially during the evening. Did some checking and found that 2-3 of my neighbors were leaching off my wireless. Since I really never use it, I just disabled it on my router and haven't had any problems since.
