    Colorado Regents holding meeting tonight

Shhhh! Don't tell anybody, but the Colorado Board of Regents will hold a clandestine, über-top-secret meeting tonight to discuss the ongoing expansion issue.

That's the word from the Boulder Daily Camera, who someone found their way around the crack security system installed by the university.

At the meeting, the regents will receive legal advice about the possible switch from the Big 12 to the Pac-10.

Colorado has been rumored to be one of six schools the Pac-10 has their eyes on, although, if Texas legislators and lobbyists get their way, it will be Baylor instead of the Buffs that would get the expected invitation.

You think that, with all of the political maneuvering and positioning going on in Texas, that might be a topic of discussion during the executive session?

As much as the PAC 10 would like to have Colorado over Baylor, if Texas says take Baylor instead of Colorado or no deal then goodbye Colorado. I for one would rather Colorado not get an invite to the PAC 10. That is a school we can align ourselves with in whatever conference comes next. There is power in numbers and our numbers are lacking. We need to hitch our wagons to Kansas, Kansas State, and hopefully Colorado.

I would like them to take Baylor too. I would love to see the bulk of the old Big 8 end up in a new conference or a rebuilt Big 12 (unless of course we can go to the Big 10).

Exactly. If we can become a package with KU/KSU and maybe Colorado, we'll more than likely wind up in a respectable situation.

Re: Colorado Regents holding meeting tonight

Do you think our Board of Regents is doing anything?

They probably wouldn't even go as far as to write a nice light written letter to Sally Mason, asking: "Sally, would it be possible for you to please vote for Iowa State when it comes time to consider schools for Big Ten expansion? We heard that you are one of only 11 individuals who has a vote. Please. Please."

She does report to the Board of Regents; however, that would probably be too much to ask.

Thank you for asking. I would like them to order Sally Mason to vote no for any type of expansion of the Big Ten if Iowa State University is not one of the schools invited. I would also like them to allocate funds for an outside marketing firm to come up with material and resources to lobby the other Big Ten Presidents, Big Ten Commissioner, and outside consulting firm the Big Ten has hired in regards to expansion to lobby our position. There may be less than a 5% chance of success; however, tens of millions of dollars are at stake and an effort needs to be made. Thanks again.

Instruct Mason to vote no to inviting MU\NU, as it would start the dominoes going that would negatively effect the whole state.

I'll take a stab at this. The presidents of Iowa State, UNI, and Iowa answer to the Board of Regents. The Board of Regents is charged by the state to run the State Universities.

ISU not being in a major conference is a major harm to the State Universities.

I guess I'm not really understanding what needs to be explained.

Re: Colorado Regents holding meeting tonight

ESPN said that Texas is asking for Baylor to replace Colorado as the other team the Pac-10 is going to invite. If all of this goes down KSU, CU, KU, & ISU really need to work together for a conference it would be in the best interest of the schools. The following teams would make up a pretty good conference that I believe would get a AQ

    Div 1
    ISU
    KSU
    KU
    CU
    CSU
    Air Force

    Div II
    Utah
    BYU
    TCU
    Boise St.
    New Mexico
    Wyoming
