Would Bix 10 improve NU's situation?

Nebraska is pouting cuz they claim TX and OU make all the decisions. Does anyone think they will have more clout in than Michigan , tOSU, or Joe Pa? I don't think so.

Their place at the table in the Big 10 will be the same as it is in the Big XII IMHO. Their budget may improve a little but it is already strong. Other than getting the attention of a new family memeber I'm not sure why they want to go to Big 10. They will still be a geographical outcast with no major TV market to speak of.

Michigan rules. Nebraska would be that school from the hinterlands. Nebraska bball would get better though.

CFH HMagic bball season next year.

What about recruiting. They recruit very heavily in TX like the rest of us. Without the conference tie to Texas their recruiting might actually take a hit. Stronger ties to all of the Midwest states does not compensate for the 350+ recruits that reside in TX every year.

If you look at the NU roster, they don't appear to recruit TX as hard as others, so they would likely be alright. MU on the other hand...over 1/4 of their FB roster is TX kids.

They don't recruit Texas nearly has heavily as you think. They own the entire state of Nebraska and recruit California and the rest of the West much heavier than they recruit Texas...

It would hurt their recruiting in California also.

Most here are giddy at the idea of moving to the Big 10. Our position wouldn't change much either. (Probably worse in fact in that we duke it out with Baylor as the doormat for the other teams. Not sure we get that in the Big 10)

We'd do it purely for the money.

Not necessarily. The Big Ten has said that new members won't fully share the revenues that have resulted from the hard work of the original members. Plus they will take a hit for pulling out of the Big XII.

Plus the issues with Nebraska are more to do with the power structure of the Big XII than the financial concerns.

You're right, we couldn't possibly compete with the mighty Indiana football powerhouse, or Northwestern.

It wouldn't improve them in football. It would improve them in all other sports, in revenues and in academic prestige.

Really? NU is already pretty darn good in WVB, WBB, MTF. I'm not sure how the Big Ten is going to improve them in any of those sports, or in MBB and baseball in which NU is struggling right now. They might get better in wrestling.

Nobody said anything about compete. But they've been in the conference forever ... you think we'll automatically walk in and surplant them?

I just assumed that when you brought up doormat, us and Baylor all at once you were talking football. My bad.

If you're talking about political power type duking it out, I honestly believe the Big 10 functions in a much more equitable manner to its members. I don't think any of it's members are a doormat of the conference, or that any team holds any significant amount of influence to exert their will. It's set up the same way as the Big 12, but I don't think anyone fears not catering to a member institution. There all fairly balanced with political clout and population and that helps a lot.
