If the election is for anything but mayor, write-in for Paul Rhoads. If it is mayor, well you know what to do.

Re: DON'T FORGET TO VOTE TODAY

I just moved into this district in August. I have had no time to gain a solid interest in the political aspect of my new area. I don't know any names. I don't know what they stand for.

For this reason, I will not vote today. It isn't fair for anybody if I just blindly pick some names, and party-voting is just plain stupid.

Welcome to The Iowa Secretary of State

Find your polling place here. It only takes a little research to find out who you want to vote for.

It isn't fair for anybody if I just blindly pick some names, and party-voting is just plain stupid.
It's a primary. You won't be voting for anybody outside of one single party anyway.

I thought this was a conference vote for realignment.

Re: DON'T FORGET TO VOTE TODAY

I'm registered independent since I am not a fan of party politics so I choose not to affliate myself with either side. Primary elections are somewhat irrelevant to me although if I were voting in the republican primary for gov. I'd probably be voting for Branstad. I'd be OK with Vander Plaats too but I think the best shot at getting governor cheeseburger out of office is Branstad.

Vander Platts could easily unseat Chester aswell. (actually I think a dead fly could be him) Branstad already had is decade plus of being governor and deserves no more chances.

Very important lesson learned... NEVER pass up the opportunity to acquire a bottle of Templeton Rye... NEVER.

I'll amend this shout out a bit.

Please vote today IF YOU'VE BEEN PAYING ATTENTION! Otherwise, please stay home. We don't need people voting based on the 30 second commercial they saw while watching American Idol.

Everyone has the right to vote. I don't think there are any provisions in the Constitution that say you need to be informed before you vote...

Where did I say everyone doesn't have a right to vote?

No there isn't, but our forefathers were wise enough to put up some barriers to assure people needed to pay attention to some level when making important voting decisions.

    1) the requirement to register to vote
    2) the use of the electoral college for the Presidency
    3) the inability for citizens to directly elect their Senators (which has since been repealed).

If you have a good argument for why encouraging uniformed citizens to vote is a good thing, I'd be interested in hearing it.

(trying to be careful here as to not send this thread to the cave.)

Never said it was a good thing, as I personally agree with what you're saying. I'm just saying, informed or not, the right still exists, and if they want to practice that right, they have very right to do so.
