would the Iowa/ISU rivalry still go on?

i don't know if this has been mentioned at all, but if all the changes happen and we end up in a lower conference, will Iowa still want to play us in football?

they see playing us as a lose lose situation now. So if we were to beat them while we're in a non BCS conference then it would be really bad for 'em.

anyway, just curious what you guys think.

Re: would the Iowa/ISU rivalry still go on?

I'm sure Barta would let the current contract we have with Iowa run out and after that they would drop us like a bad habit...Mostly because they are ******* who don't want to "tarnish" their image by losing to us...

They wouldn't play us for the same reason most of the big boys won't play Boise, Utah or TCU. Looks bad if you lose but you should win.

The new contract goes into effect in 2013 and runs through 2020.

I can't imagine a scenario where they don't play each other, regardless of how things turn out.

Re: would the Iowa/ISU rivalry still go on?

Where are you guys getting this idea that Iowa would drop the series? Some message board U of I dopes have suggested this but that's far different from Barta actually pulling the plug.

Even if we get demoted to the MWC I think the series continues. It's good to the state and I think both JP and Barta realize this. It would be a travesty for it to go away.

Well if we go to the MWC then at least the hawks would be correct in saying it's our superbowl game

Yep. Unless things turn Colorado vs Colorado State bad, the series would continue. If iowa has the winning problem they had in the early 2000's against us again, all bets are off. But even then it would have to be 6 or 7 straight IMO.

And with the new 21 and over law in IC it would be even more profitable for the ICPD!!!

I think this is unlikely. The legislature doesn't require Iowa to Play UNI do they?

There is already talk in I-club meetings about ending the series. And yes I think Iowa is afraid of losing to ISU. The solution would be to not play ISU.

    We'd play.

Iowa would see us as an automatic win and ISU would see it as an opportunity to earn some respect.
