    Izzo to the Cleveland Cavaliers?

Cleveland Cavaliers make offer to Michigan State Spartans coach Tom Izzo, sources say - ESPN

MSU's AD has stated that an offer has not been extended yet but did confirm that interest is there.

Re: Izzo to the Cleveland Cavaliers?

Izzo is a great college coach. He would not make it as a NBA coach. Please no Izzo!

Re: Izzo to the Cleveland Cavaliers?

I heard Tom Izzo speak on the Dan Patrick Show during the Final Four regarding the possibility of coaching in the NBA. He says he has been tempted; however, the situation would have to be right. The impression that I got is that he would go to the NBA if he truly felt as though he could win a NBA Championship with that team. I don't believe he would go if he didn't feel the Cavs would have LeBron James coming back.

I have a feeling Cavs' decision might hinge on what might keep LeBron in Cleveland ... and for Izzo, probably an assurance that James will be there.

If the money and potential for next-level achievement is too good to pass up, Izzo might do it. He obviously knows he has a decent little situation going there at MSU ... it would be a risk.

And look how many coaches took the leap and got burned. If this unraveled in a few years, there would most likely be no going back to Michigan State.

I think some coaches are college types, and others are pro types. ... Off the top of my head I can't think of anyone in recent memory who thrived at both levels. (Anyone is welcome to set me straight on that)

Re: Izzo to the Cleveland Cavaliers?

If Mike Brown can take the Cavs deep in the playoffs, Tom Izzo surely can. Assuming LeBron stays, it's a pretty safe job for him to take. Borderline idiot proof.

Uh, yeah, but LeBron has to say or this is possibly the worst job in the NBA. You have to be in CLeveland with not much for a team.

Even if it doesn't work out for him, he'll get another great college job ala Rick Pitino.

Re: Izzo to the Cleveland Cavaliers?

Why would he give up the control he has with kids fighting to stay on scholarship for a job where most of the players make more than he does?

    Ask Steve Spurrier that question.

I read something about how he thinks this will provide him some better work-life balance and that makes sense. He wouldn't have to recruit anymore.

I thought LeBron wanted a coach that had NBA experience
