Re: TV Math Doesn't Necessarily Add Up For Conferences

This article simply makes the argument that 16 team conferences might not make sense.

Great....but it only take losing two or three teams from the Big 12 (Big 10 take one, PAC 10 two) to make the Big 12's demise a real possibility.

It is an interesting take, but forgive me if I don’t' get warm and fuzzy after reading it.

Right, I'm not saying that the BigXII won't lose a team. I'm just pointing out that the apocalyptic idea of the BigXII losing 8 teams is unlikely in this man's point of view. It would be much easier to replace 2 or 3 teams and keep the BigXII conference vs. Iowa State trying to figure out a landing spot after the BigXII is all but destroyed.

So if we lose Nebby, Mizzou and CU, we pick up ASU, BYU, Boise state and 4 more, (TCU?) and maybe a couple more from further east, and come out better for it?

Re: TV Math Doesn't Necessarily Add Up For Conferences

Yes. Actually, if you think about it from the money standpoint (basically just like all the conference commish's and AD's) the Big XII as it stand now would have the easiest route to becoming a 16 team Mega-Conference. The BigXII allows each school to make what they earn with regards to television revenue, where the Big11 and proposed Pac16 would be a "split-the-pot" type scenario.

Basically it wouldn't hurt the BigXII, as a conference, to add members. Might hurt ISU...but that's another story.

Not necessarily...assuming we can raid the MWC and pick up a few schools in the east, start up our own TV network, and just share revenues from that, it could actually help us.

But it only takes the Big 12 losing two teams - NE and MO - to basically put us on a geographical island. I don't think you can dismiss the loss of these two teams too lightly.
