    Paul Clark on M&M

Paul Clark was on the M&M show last Friday.
    6/4 Second Hour
Matt and Ken talk with Paul Clark of cyconereport.com

    http://www.kxno.com/cc-common/podcast/single_podcast.html?podcast=MattandMiller.xml

I recommend giving it a listen. Particularly if you are about to commit harry carey at the thought of the Big 12 dissolving. Paul Clark hits the nail right on the head in this interview.

Can you summarize why it's a good listen? Honestly I'm good with not listening. ;)

No sound, could you describe the nail he hits?

Paul thinks we would be better suited in a MVC type conference.

I disagree, but he can have his opinion.

If the Big 12 now continues with everything has gone on over the past several months, the separation between the have and have not's will double. We (along with all the Big 12 North) can not continue in the Big 12 the way it is now, after all this. You realize the power Texas will gain from this will be massive?

    Re: Paul Clark on M&M

ISU has had pretty decent success in the Big 8 and Big 12 in every sport outside football. Not great, but not exactly desperate.

We'll never be on par with the likes of Texas, OU or even Nebraska. When you start talking resources and funding (and not outright success) you can add A&M, Tech and OSU in there as well.

But a conference is more than just football - even if it is the mechanism that drives the machine. We just finished 2nd in volleyball, a regular conference winner and national power in wrestling, women's basketball is always competitive and we have a proud MBB that has been down in recent years. Even sports like gymnastics performs well, and track and even golf have had improvements.

To think we have to bolt to a lower tier conference because FB has more obstacles and avenues - is a bit shortsighted IMO.

He addresses joining the MT West. Not the MVC.
I would imagine the re-tooled MWC that would likely include Kansas, K State, ISU, and Boise St would be a BCS conf.
His question to the ISU fanbase was, would you trade places with Utah fan over the last ten years? Yes or no. No "yeah, but".
I think the answer to that would be yes. Utah played in a BCS game. Utah in the final 4. Utah and the Boise States and TCUs of the world could not have done what they did in the Big 12.

ISU has the desire and committment to succeed whereever it is at. And ISU has a better chance of making a BCS bowl in a re-tooled Mt West than it does in the Big 12. Period.

If he said Missouri Valley then all credibility was just defenestrated...

If not then I have to agree with our BCS chances being better if we are in a BCS "re-tooled" MWC

    Re: Paul Clark on M&M

He asked whether you'd rather be an ISU fan or a Utah fan based on the last 10 years or so of success (or lack thereof).

I think it's a bad comparison for a couple reasons. #1- Utah doesn't have a BCS program in-state to contend with. #2- Our recruiting/donations would likely drop considerably if we dropped out of a BCS conference.
