Why only an ultimatum to NU / MU?

With the talk of TX et al. to the Pac 10, why weren't all the Big XII teams given a 1-2 week ultimatum? Why was it limited to NU and MU?

Because if those two don't leave, chances are the other six won't either.

Re: Why only an ultimatum to NU / MU?

Texas and the rest of the South don't really want to leave. Texas wants to run a conference.

I really wonder why Texas would leave if NU and Mizzou do. They could be replaced pretty easily, and Texas would remain Lord of the Manor, so to speak. That will not be the case in the Pac-10. Makes you wonder if Texas is actually serious.

This, I dont want ISU part of this conference now if nothing happens. Texas will have more power than the man upstairs.

It may not be ideal, but it would still be the best for ISU.

The #1 preference of the University of Texas is to keep the Big XII in tact, form their own Longhorn Network within 2 years, and keep most of their t.v. revenue for themselves. However, they don't feel this is a viable option if Missouri and Nebraska both leave for the Big Ten.

Still kind of shows where the power lies.

What is guaranteed if Mizzou/NU commit? What's binding for the other 6?

Texas doesn't want to look like the bad guy in all of this. If the Big 12 breaks up then everybody can point at Nebby packing up and leaving as the cause. It lets the peeps down in Texas sleep better at night...

    Which doesn't make sense.

A Longhorn Network will NOT get picked up outside of Texas, so why does it matter if Missouri and Nebraska are here. Kansas City, St. Louis, and Omaha aren't going to carry a Longhorn Network, unless that network decides to show all Big 12 sporting events, because let's face it, one school alone can't fill up that much programming time. If the Longhorn Network only showcases Texas, it's not going to be attractive to a larger audience.

Know of many schools with an 80,000 seat stadium? How about an athletics budget of $75,000,000? Any FBNC? Didn't think so.

The Big 12 was probably directed to do so by Texas. If those two renegades don't fall back in line by the deadline, Texas will pull the trigger and take half the conference with them to the Pac 10.

THIS!!! The only problem is those a-holes down at UT don't seem to care. They think they are bigger and better then everyone else put together so they are going to keep pushing this worthless idea of having their own network. Their greed has no bounds and they have shown before that they have no problems burying a conference that they were a part of if it suits their interests better.

I believe Louisville is expanding to around 70,000. BYU is currently at 64,000. Both deliver larger TV markets than the State of Nebraska.

I'm only guessing but I believe that if NU decides to stick with it in the B12, we move forward to the next step of the "process" which would involve binding agreements for all members.
