Would ISU have been better off keeping WOI-TV?

Years ago, we had our own television station. Would we have been better off today, if ISU had kept WOI-TV?

One station does not a network make.

Better off how? Any Big 12 contracts would have preempted WOI so they would still be really low on the totem pole and likely would not be able to broadcast any Big 12 games.

Made a difference for ISU outside of the state of Iowa?...Probably not, at least directly. But rest assured the benefits it had for ISU with-in the state of Iowa is the primary reason why it was sold.

Better off as in it was a completely idiotic idea to sell it in the first place. It made money! It wasn't an expense to ISU. It wasn't a huge cash stream, but so what, its benefits outweighed its one-time cash sale price.

I think it's nearly impossible to answer that correctly. Way too many other factors to consider that really aren't possible to include: such as who would have worked here, how would the local presences have impacted state, regional and national attitudes and opinions, and whether ABC would have kept the channel/franchise.

It is too bad that ISU had to lose an actual television station at which journalism students worked and were able to have internships, weekend jobs and general experience.

We obviously would have been better off keeping the TV station - but it would have precisely zero impact on the situation that we are in today.

It was a HUGE asset to the university and helped them rival Missouri's j-school. I know of few people that got their undergrad and grad degree's and mizzou has had little competition since then.

Didn't Branstad help out in forcing ISU to sell it?

How is it idiotic to sell assets that are profitable if the sales price exceeds the discounted value of the future cash flows of the asset?

Are you are saying that ISU should have required a larger sales price?
