Dan Wetzel has a worse scenario for you....

Twitter / Dan Wetzel: Mountain West could end up ...

Mountain West could end up going 12 with Colorado, Boise, Kansas. Leave KSU, ISU behind. Or go 14

Once again... KU isnt going anywhere without KSU. Any 'source' that says otherwise should be immediately ruled out.

The Farmageddon conference? Best of 9? JK, aren't KU and KSU a package deal?

No one's got a concrete solid answer on that.

Re: Dan Wetzel has a worse scenario for you....

I thought that the Kansas legislature is requiring KU and KSU to stay together. If so, I don't see this scenario happening and they end up taking ISU and KSU. I still think this is more likely to end up with the remaining Big12 offering the schools from the MWC that they want.

I really don't understand the rationale behind the MWC leaving us out. Why wouldn't they go to 16 and/or take an additional 1-2 former BCS league schools?

Relative to the MWC, we have above average stadium/bball arena, overall facilities and attendance. Why wouldn't we be a positive to them? Additionally, it expands their TV market some more as well.

uh, we don't bring anything to anyone. We are in the bigXII because we were a founding member of the Big6, That is it. We don't add anything to the MWC except another team. We don't bring history, we don't bring TV markets, we don't bring political power, and we don't bring enough academically to matter. We could really get left out high and dry. Instead of looking at it from ISU's side and saying we have a lot you love about us, instead pretend you are Wyoming and ask yourself why on earth you want Iowa State in your conference.

Well, for one, I haven't looked at attendance numbers from the MWC, but I would think that our fan support (TV eyeballs, traveling, etc) holds up well compared to many of their schools.

Depends on whether adding isu adds revenue to the per team split or not.

why would the MWC care what our attendance is...that has VERY little effect on other conference members. Its just a feather for our cap. And, my bet is our attendance drops if we leave major conference football.

********. We may not add a ton to the power conferences, but we'd add plenty to the MWC.

-2nd largest school-owned stadium behind BYU (there is also SDSU, but thats an nfl stadium they play in)
-Basketball capacity in line with everyone else in the MWC
-Academically, we're more than fine in the MWC
-No tv? This is a conference that consists of schools in Utah and Wyoming.
-political power? this is a conference thats been bringing powerful senators to bat for it.. adding ISU could add another couple in Harkin\Grassley.

Thanks cd. I wonder how their athletic budgets compare to ours. I mean I realize we're not the hot chick that everyone in the school wants to hook up with, but we aren't as unattractive as some are making it sound. Compared to what the Pac 10, SEC and B10 are looking for, maybe, but not for the MWC, IMO.
