Take a look at the Big Twelve Conference (circa 2014). Kinda like it!

The New Big Twelve Conference (circa 2014)

    MOUNTAIN WEST DIVISION
    Boise State
    Brigham Young
    Utah
    Wyoming
    UNLV
    San Diego State
    Colorado State

    GREAT PLAINS DIVISION
    Iowa State
    Kansas
    Kansas State
    Cincinatti
    TCU
    Louisville
    Air Force

I have to admit...I really kinda like how that sets up. Covers a big region with some very nice population centers...Kansas City/Denver-Front Range/Dallas/Las Vegas/Salt Lake City/San Diego/Cincinnati/Louisville. I think as a football conference its very competetive with the other major conferences...and in basketball it would be elite from the start. Some outstanding "traditional" basketball programs in schools like Kansas, Kansas State, Louisville, Cincinnati, UNLV, BYU and Utah. It seems very likely this new Big 12 would keep its BCS status...which is CRITICAL. So while this is a tough situation for ISU right now, it could come out of things in pretty darn good shape if this is close to the final configuration.

Re: Take a look at the Big Twelve Conference (circa 2014). Kinda like it!

Although it may be likely that this new Big 12 would keep its BCS status, it would be a dwarf when compared to the Big 10, SEC, or the proposed PAC 10.

The Big East is currently considered an elite basketball conference but in the overall scheme of things the Big East just doesn't even begin to measure up in terms of Conference revenue when compared to the SEC or the Big 10.

The strange thing here is that the PAC 10 does not currently have the powerhouse teams or even the revenue that the Big 12 has, so something is screwy (lack of leadership) when the PAC 10 ends up being in the drivers seat instead of the Big 12.

Its true that it won't be as big as the top 3 conferences...but the goal is to be in the top 5. That's what gets us the AQ for a BCS bid. And I'd stack up the basketball programs in that new conference against any of the top 3. We may not be at their level in football...though we'd still be HIGHLY competitive with them...but we will be good enough to generate a lot of TV revenue and fan support. I think we might ultimately do better financially in a new Big 12 than in the current one.

Who cares? I basketball conference means nothing and in football it isn't a big deal either if you are at AQ status.

Might as well just make it 16 teams with 2 divisions of 8. Add Memphis to the Great Plains division and Nevada to the MW.
(those were just the 2 first teams that popped into my head, if there are better ones, than ok. But, if everybody else is going big, we might as well go to 16 teams as well.)

Re: Take a look at the Big Twelve Conference (circa 2014). Kinda like it!

I think the best situation if the Pac-10 gets their six and Mizzou goes to the Big 10 (heard that the Big 10 isn't interested in Nebraska) would be as follows.
We would have Iowa State, Nebraska, Kansas State, Kansas, and Baylor left.
We go and get TCU, Utah, BYU, and Boise State for MWC. (Boise State is planning on joining soon)
Then we get Memphis, Cincy, and Louisville.
    Split into East/West divisions

    East:
    Iowa State
    Baylor
    TCU
    Memphis
    Louisville
    Cincy

    West:
    Nebraska
    Kansas
    Kansas State
    Utah
    BYU
    Boise State

We give a couple SEC teams a pitch (ie. Kentucky, Lousiana State, Arkansas) if Nebraska does go to Big 10 or to replace some of the Mountain West region teams (Boise State, BYU, Utah). Arkansas I would assume would be the most likely of all the SEC teams because they aren't really expierencing great success in any major sports in the SEC.

The whole thing is very unlikely but I believe that it is possible.

As for your layout... I can't really get excited about San Jose State, Wyoming, Colorado State, and Air Force.
"San Diego State" still doesn't excite me.

Did you create this or did you find it online some place?

San Diego State not San Jose.

Read another conversation about some interest from the Mountain West in leftover Big 12 schools and the rest is pure speculation. Seems a logical move if the Big 12 comes apart...losing NU and MU to the Big Ten and the Texas 3 to the Pac 10. At that point we need to find a way to remain a BCS school...that's the top priority in my mind. This is a way to do so AND to be in a GREAT basketball conference...perhaps the best in the nation...and a top 5 football conference. That's not a bad way to go...if we end up in that situation.

No SEC team in their right mind would consider leaving the SEC no matter how limited their football success is.

Arkansas has experienced more success in the SEC than ISU has in the Big 12. ISU would like for the Big 12 to stay intact since the revenue base is considerably greater than from a mismatch of Mountain West teams and Big 12 cast offs. The same would apply for Arkansas; they aren't going to leave a premier Conference to play in a Conference that has a revenue base that is dwarfed by the SEC.

Yes, an intact Big 12 is the best scenario. I'd rate that possibility at about 10% right now.

Given that situation, I was looking at the best POSSIBLE outcome for ISU and the remaining schools (ISU, KU, KSU...and perhaps one other Big 12 school). Bringing the MWC schools into the Big 12 is the best answer for the remaining schools...and its a great benefit for the MWC schools as well. A true win-win situation...perhaps putting the conference HQ in Denver. With two divisions, it works out well to maintain old associations and minimize distance of travel. It also covers some big, financially beneficial urban areas. Its a good solution to a very difficult situation.

If we are going to pull any big schools in were going to need a television deal period

The real thing I don't like about this divide is that it destroys all our historical matchups.

I wouldn't worry about that "divide". That setup has absolutely zero chance of ever coming to fruition.

I agree. I think we need to end up in a division with KU and KSU.

That would be nowhere close to a great basketball conference.
