Texas a&m does not fit into the PAC 10

Texas A&M To the Pac 10: Yeah I Didn't Think so Either (Part One) | Bleacher Report

makes a lot of sense on some levels, I assume they would make Texas an out of conf game. Doesn't mean they don't go to SEC unfortunately.

No it doesn't. Texas will not leave the Big 12 without aTm. It just won't happen. I actually doubt they will leave without Tech as well.

Texas wont leave without A&M... but will A&M go to the pac 10? I see the merit in what the article says there. TAMU really doesnt fit at all in the pac 10.

A&M will probably go where ever the Texas State legislature tells them to go.

Not likely due to the fact the Legislature only meets every two years, which would be in January-May 2011. I'd expect things to happen before then.

Re: Texas a&m does not fit into the PAC 10

The author needs to do some research on Texas A&M. I would hardly qualify them as a "military school." They dropped the requirement to be a member of the Corps of Cadets back in the early 60's. Today, at a university of 50,000 students, only 2,000 comprise the Corps of Cadets.
A&M is a great research school, ranked as the 22nd best public university in US News, has a huge fan base and following, with great facilities and budgets for all sports. Any conference would be eager to include them.

They may not require corps of cadets, but it very much still has that feel to it when you're on campus. The difference between college station and austin is dramatic.

College Station and most any pac 10 school would be dramatic. Imagine the corps band marching around in Cal on an annual basis.

I have friend who is an alum, no way from their fanbase perspective anyways.

Texas A and M doesn't really fit anywhere. They are just a little bit off center

haha, that would be a clash. look one way you see the corps of cadets, look the other you see street vendors selling tie-dyed clothing.

iirc, didnt texas kinda want to go pac-10 the first time (instead of big 12) but TAMU didnt, wanting to go SEC (which texas wanted none of) so as a middle ground, they both went Big 12?

Agree, College Station is not Austin, or Madison or Chapel Hill, but it is not this military outpost that is "180 degrees from the culture of the Pac 10" as the author claimed. It's not the Citadel.
Case in point - I went there as an official when A&M hosted the NCAA men's and women's tennis championships in May 2009. There were teams from Stanford, Cal, USC, and UCLA on campus and around town for 10 days. Everyone I talked with loved A&M as a host and had a great time.
It's political culture may be conservative, but so are ASU and Arizona.

Re: Texas a&m does not fit into the PAC 10

Take a look at the A&M/UT situation (as well as that of ISU/UIowa) from an exposure standpoint. UT goes to the Pac-10 and A&M goes to the SEC...instant coast-to-coast exposure for the state of Texas on both academic and athletic fronts. Not to mention pulling revenue from different sources. They could have a rivalry FB game, just like UT/OU did prior to the Big 12.

I see the same thing for the state of Iowa. **IF** there were to be some kind of Pac-10/Big 12 merger/alliance that included ISU, the state of Iowa also gets practically coast-to-coast exposure by having one school in the Big/Pac-20/22 and one in the Big Ten/Eleven/Twelve/Fourteen/Sixteen.

The SEC (FL) and the Pac-10 (CA) already have prime recruiting areas, so it's not like recruit poaching should be a huge problem.

I don't know...I just see more advantages to having a school in each of two superconferences as opposed to having two schools in one superconference. Are there really major advantages for the state in having UT and A&M in the same conference?

Nowhere is turning Texas down because they have to take aTm as well. aTm is going wherever Texas tells them too.
