The MWC and MAC may not be the only option...

What about the Big East? If the Big X adds a Big East school ISU could be an option for the Big East. Geographically it isn't out of the question, and may be another option for ISU that no ones seems to be considering.

Geographically, yeah it is out of the question. You do realize that nearly every trip we make would be further than any trip we make right now correct? Big East is a terrible, terrible idea.

Fred would certainly have his work cut out. We would be recruiting New York players for sure. Yet we could rule in football.

The Big East schools aren't any further than the MWC schools, fyi. I know psychologically it seems like a stretch, but from a mileage standpoint it's very similar and maybe even closer.

Alright. Hold on. So, say PAC 16 happens, Big Television take Nebby, Mizzou, ND, Pitt, and Syracuse and USF and someone else jet to the SEC. That would be hellaz confusing and probably the end of the world.

I am going on record saying ISU will not be in any of those 3 conferences in my lifetime.

I would say lets keep Iowa State heading South for football games not east or north. All of the talent is in the south so if we were to go play a team like TCU we would get exposure to Texas players. The talent pool is down south and thats where we want our exposure

Beggars can't be chosers. Logistically the Big East looks better then the Mountain West from my perspective, but you seem to be the expert.

As do I. It probably would never happen, but I have wondered why ISU could not just pay more to get in than the other schools considered? Given how much more that conference would pay than the current Big 12 (not too mention what the worst case scenarios would pay), it may be a bargain.

Re: The MWC and MAC may not be the only option...

This is a good post by a West Virginia fan on the Iowa State scout site. I think this has plenty of merit.

    http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=171&f=2549&t=6013201

The best thing for the big east imo is for a football/basketball split contingency plan. If the big ten announces it wants Missouri, and the Pac 1O goes after the other big 12 schools the big east should split and the football schools should
aggressively go after Kansas, Kansas St. Iowa St.....and Nebraska if they are not taken by the big 10. Also go after Memphis and Temple if we cant get Nebraska.

That leaves a BCS worthy football league consisting of two leagues that are reall not that big of a logistical nightmare.

    Consider the west bracket:

    Kansas
    Kansas St
    Iowa St
    Memphis
    Lville
    Cinci
    ..................Maybe Nebraska
    East

    Syracuse
    Pitt
    Wvu
    Uconn
    Rutgers
    South fla
    ................. Maybe Temple.

Thats a BCS worthy football conference and TOP 3 in basketball. We have huge tv markets.
    Rank
    Designated Market Area (DMA)
    TV Households
    % of US
    1 New York 7,375,530 6.692 4 Philadelphia 2,925,560 2.654 8 Washington, DC (Hagrstwn)2,252,550 2.044 12 Tampa-St. Pete (Sarasota) 1,710,400 1.552 22 Pittsburgh 1,169,800 1.061 28 Hartford & New Haven 1,013,350 0.919 31Kansas City 903,540 0.820 34 Cincinnati 880,190 0.799 44 Memphis 657670 0.59750 Louisville 643,290 0.584

The schedule would be easy to set up, each team plays 3 from the other conference and theres a championship game.

And the basketball....WOW 2 games each against kansas, kansas st, memphis, pitt, uconn, syracuse, lville,
    and cinci? WOW.

And the TV markets alone support our own TV network
