    The Road

The Road (2009) - Movie Info - Yahoo! Movies

I just watched this movie and liked it quite a bit. I read the book last fall and the movie stays pretty much with it. Has anyone else seen this (or read the book) and what did you think of it?

    Re: The Road

My wife and I watched it the other night. She absolutely hated it, but I liked it. I think it goes deep into the bond between father and son, and the fears that a father has for him. I'd jump in front of a bus for my boy, so it hit home.

    Re: The Road

I read the book about 2 years ago and I honestly don't know why I would ever want to return to that world. I mean just one of the most depressing stories I've ever read. Honestly a great book but I read that and Kite Runner back to back which bummed me out for a few days.

    Re: The Road

McCarthy's entire body of work is worth reading, not just The Road. You may prefer Suttree, an earlier novel that is said to be quite a****iographical; most of the action takes place in Knoxville, TN, on or near the TN River where the main character is a commercial fisherman. Then there is his trio of Mexican books about the decline of the Old West, demise of the cowboy/rancher, etc. McCarthy often is pessimistic, but then he once said that a writer is not serious unless he writes about death.

Pretty close adaptation. They cut out one particular scene that I remember from the book because it was so graphic.

Excellent movie and book... but not exactly light reading. Very bleak and depressing, but still with hope.

I would rather watch children of men again.

I HATE what viggo's wife does in the road.

    Re: The Road

Funny you mention this today. My wife and I were watching a Netflix movie last night, and there was a preview for "The Road" which we had never heard of. It went onto our queue, and I'm hoping to read the book before we get the DVD.

    Re: The Road

I read the book in one night, could not put it down. It is really about the relationship of Father and Son with a bleak back drop. Don't meet a lot of Women who liked this film or book.

    Re: The Road

One of my favorite books ever--brilliant. Thought the movie was quite good as well....there's no 'Rudy' ending to it, however.
