    Deep Water Horizon Oil Cap

I've been watching some of the live video tonight on MSNBC. Cool stuff going on. Subs buzzing all over the place and they're moving the cap around.

    Hope it works.

I've been watching this drama for a week or so and I have never read or heard anyone report how big this pipe is. Just watching it live does not give you any idea of width.

    Any ideas??

While I have no clue as to what is going on, I could watch this video all night. Does that mean I'm qualified to be a BP executive???

What exactly is going on here? There appears to be just a ton of oil flying out at the moment with no other activity going on. Am I missing something?

Oil not being siphoned yet. It will continue to leak around the seal. Even when the siphoning process beings oil will likely continue to leak around the seal until the relief wells are finished.

Article from Yahoo, sounds somewhat optimistic.

Theoretically it's supposed to work the same way the first solution was going to work - there will be a riser pipe on the cap that is connected to a ship on the surface to collect the oil.

This is all very interesting . I do think that BP is taking more heat on this than it deserves. It is not like they wanted to be wasting all of this product. One of the contractors screwed up but we are all human.

Re: Deep Water Horizon Oil Cap

I thought that I had read that it was in position but now I'm not sure. Maybe the report was just describing it. Either way it's still dumping a load of oil into the seas.

Re: Deep Water Horizon Oil Cap

Earlier in the evening they were positioning it. Now it appears to be on, but it doesnt' appear to be a tight seal. Still if they can put a pipe on what's shooting out the top, they're going to catch a lot of oil.
