    Junior to Retire

Ken Griffey Jr is going to announce his retirement.

Sad day for me. He was by far my favorite baseball player. He was never even rumored to have cheated and he seemed like a great guy. In his prime, I think he was one of the greatest to play. It's a shame he had to spend the last 10 years injured.

Glad to see him go out as a Mariner. Anything else just wouldn't feel right.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that. I felt the same with Jerry Rice

Griffey Jr. was my all-time favorite player. Had one of the sweetest swings and was never once accused of sticking a needle in his ***.

Looking at his stats, it's crazy he put those kind of numbers up while only being a touch above mediocre the last 10 years of his career

Same for me!!! I'll never forget Seattle's playoff series with the Yankees early in Junior's career. The upstart Mariners beating the Yanks with a young A-rod, Junior, and Big Unit!!!

Was either 95 or 97. I wanna say 95 because I think the Indians beat the Yankees out in 97.

Edit: Yep, just looked. Believe A-Rod would've been a rookie that year since Jeter came up full time in '96.

Amen. I really enjoyed watching him play. And that whole not-cheating thing.

If only he hadn't broken down

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.

He needs to be a first ballot HOF'er. He still did more hurt than a majority of the league.

Is Griff Sr. in the hall?? Would they be the first father-son combo in the hall??

Yeah, if he was healthy for just 5 of those years, I think he passes Bonds. All while never being rumored to be juicing. That man also had every reason to cheat and numerous opportunities with all the injuries but we have never heard a peep about him. Kind of injustice for him really. He was a better player than Bonds.

    Re: Junior to Retire

Boy, you know you're getting up there when you can say "seems like just yesterday he broke into the league"

Always liked Junior. Carried himself well. Bit of a prodigy, but you never really got that "I'm special" feeling like so many others.
