    Updated Grant Gibbs information

I've been told through multiple sources that Grant Gibbs did not end up going on his visit to Ames today. From what I've heard, Iowa State is no longer recruiting him and that this was sort of a mutual decision. Grant will more than likely look elsewhere.

I'm sure he'll land on his feet. Grant is a talented prospect and he's also a great kid. I wish him the best.

Good luck to him, maybe this means we are banking schollies for next year, or have better options.

Quote from imported_blubberhawk on HN after ISU beatdown of Iowa in Carver '14

"When you lose to a fricking joke of a program like ISU, you get what you deserve. That game is a perfect illustration of why our head coach should be retired.
In defense of the Big ten network, it is tough to find Iowa games anymore when we aren't embarrassed."

    Re: Updated Grant Gibbs information

Gibbs would not be eligible next year. And we might have some better options to go after than a transfer who would have two years left that has had some injury problems. We might sign Gibbs and he could continue to have injury problems and not pan out for the two years we had with him.

I'm hoping it's because we still have better options in mind for transfers for that class.

    Re: Updated Grant Gibbs information

I don't mind the 2 years, as we need to balance the classes a bit. Wouldn't be surprised to see more juco's to fill that need in the following class.

    Re: Updated Grant Gibbs information

We have 4 uncommitted scholarships for next fall's signing period. I assume Hoiberg and staff felt that with a summer and fall of recruiting that they can sign 4 players better than Gibbs. I think they can and hope they do.

The right transfer is always welcome IMO. The lore of the Mayor can only last so long without results. Coach Hoiberg needs to be in the middle of the pack of the Big 12 by year 2 or 3 for multiple reasons.

    1) Fans need hope and if it's not turning around in the next couple years the can he actually coach daemons will come out.

    2) Recruiting. Right now he has the advantage of the NBA ties as a selling point. If 2 years from now we're still in the cellar of the big 12 the idea of moving on to the next level by going through a program that is losing matters a lot less.

Transfers are the best way to turn something around quickly, and given what Hoiberg has said he intends to do you don't need guys to play 4 years in your system to be effective.

Reestablish the position of ISU as a legit Big 12 basketball team with transfers, then when build to the top with high school recruits.

    Re: Updated Grant Gibbs information

Win, win for us and him imo. We didn't need another transfer with his ability and he wouldn't fit in our system. His game is tailor-made for the MVC and he has a better chance to play in that league. If this was Royce White, I would be upset.

I don't know about that. He was a top 100-125 recruit coming out of high school, right? I would think that any program would be happy to have him. MVC schools usually don't get that quality of a recruit.

If he's not going to ISU I hope he ends up at UNI.

Ok obviously you didn't pay attention to him this year. He did go to top 20 program and was the 5th man off the bench. That team lost one player this year that played ahead of him. Obviously Grant realized this and has moved on to find greener pastures. So what if he was ranked that high out of hs, maybe he was overrated to a point. Now don't get my words twisted here, he is a talented kid, but he is not the right fit for an up-tempo team. We want athletic, quick SF and he is not that.

What??? Since when are players that aren't able to play for a year the best way to reestablish a program?
