    Re: Dam to Dam

JeriAnn's forecast is for Rain starting about 7AM tomorrow just in time for the start of the run.

Anyone run this in the rain before? Are there any rain tips to be shared? I'm worried mostly about blistering when my shoes get wet.

My ipod will be in a plastic baggie by the sounds of it.

First timer. I've been running 5-8 miles 3 times a week for a couple months, but have never gone farther than 8. I have little doubt I can make it, but what I doubt is whether it will be anywhere close to a respectable time.

In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection.

I have a shuffle I'll be wearing. Looks weather-proof enough for me.

This was my first concern...there is no way I can do this without my iPod

Last year was my first. I ran 3 miles on April 30 last year and decided to give Dam to Dam a shot...thinking it was only a 5K or 10K. Found out it was a 20K and kept training anyway running similar to you. I made it last year in 1:53 and I have never been a distance runner...you will be fine

I've actually ran in the rain with baggie wrapped Ipods, and it worked out well.

My earbuds might be a problem though.

    Re: Dam to Dam

I am a little more worried about the run this year than last... I have trained longer this year, but took a couple weeks just recently because my knee was acting up. Tried to do a long run last weekend in Scottsdale and felt horrible. I'm hoping the heat and slight elivation was the reason but not so sure...plus my knee is still being a punk.

Buy some BodyGlide and rub it all over your feet, nipples, and other areas that may rub once your clothing gets wet. Not full proof but will at least help deter blistering a little bit. I've just started using it recently on my longer runs after having it recommended by some coworkers. It's like $5 for a little stick.

I wouldn't try anything on race day that you haven't used before.

Where do I find this stuff? Can you tell it is on there (squishy or greasy)?

    Re: Dam to Dam

I've never used body glide before but then again I have never ran 12.4 miles either. I'm gonna be getting me some tonight and use it for the race tomorrow.

I have run the Living history farms race twice and your feet are wet the pretty much 5 of the 7 miles and I have never gotten blisters. I am more worried about other areas chafing than my feet blistering. I have found that compression shirts/shorts are also VERY good at reducing chafing if you are skepticle of using bodyglide or similar products.

Pretty much any running store or where they sell running gear. Scheels, sports authority the running room etc.

    Re: Dam to Dam

My uncle gave me these things called Nip Guards that are basically adhesive pads that go over your nipples to prevent chaffing. They seem to be pretty legit. I'm sure any running/fitness store would have them. He also gave me some of that body glide, so I'll be trying that out.

    Re: Dam to Dam

Has anyone just shown up and run before? Will you get ejected? I was assuming I could still sign up, and see that registration is full. Will they get angry/violent with me for showing up and running? Obviously, I won't get any of the swag, but I just want to do the run.

    Re: Dam to Dam

Quick question about the body glide; how long before you run can you apply it and have it still be effective?

I'll be picking some up today. Thanks.

I will be wearing compression shorts. I think that will keep most important stuff in place.

I do worry about the nips. That can be painful.
