    Coin Collectors?

Hey fanatics, I was just wondering if there are any coin collectors or anyone who knows info about old American coins. A friend of mine has some $50 gold coins from the 1880's after watching the pawn stars marathon this morning :). I'm starting to think they are worth quite a bit of money!

If you're in or around Ames, check out Chester's Coins and Gifts on main street. Scott Nichols is a great guy to ask about stuff like this.

Christophers Jewelry in Des Moines has a dept that can value them for you. I took some there recently and was happy with the results.

I'd say each is worth $50.

Check the values online first. Most stores won't give you anywhere near full value for them.

My husband can help you. He is a coin collector himself, & an auctioneer. He does valuations for IRS & estate purposes; he also holds coin auctions every couple of months....the next is in about a month.

Let me know if you would like his contact info.

It will depend significantly on the grade. I doubt the op can grade these coins himself. Take them to a reputable shop such as the two mentioned.
Chester's is above the board and won't steer you wrong.
