    Re: Lost synopsis

We re watched the finale today after we watched the pilot a few days ago. Thought it was even better this time around. Couldnt help but get choked up during the times when they "let go" and remembered.

    Re: Lost synopsis

To me, Lost has always been about "lost" souls trying to atone for their flaws and/or sins, and the island was a vehicle for their reform. I could see a lot of people assuming that the island was simply purgatory, but if that were the case, how were the Oceanic 6 and a few of the Others able to leave and come back?

I think the island's purpose is subject to whomever is the current protector. Jacob was all about the free will and wanting those who come to the island to fix themselves instead of telling them how they should live or who they should become. The island's abilities are probably a little more consistent, being some sort of central location for the web of fate (or something like that!).

This is where it starts to delve into a lot of pseudo/new age science type stuff, and I don't feel very comfortable going much further until I know exactly what I'm talking about.

Strange, I watched the finale again today, too! I think I was getting even more choked up there near the end. Just very well executed. If they could have tossed us a few more bones answering long-standing mysteries, this would have been a classic finale. Instead, it's just "very good".

Just curious, what other answers were you looking to have answered?

Maybe they will in the extra 20 minutes on the DVD, but I doubt it. Some of the stuff seems too odd, but it is all 100% believable to me. Anything can happen.

One of the few ?'s I have is how did Jacob and Ben leave the island all the time and get back on? Jacob not sure, but Ben said that he had been to Tunisia before after he turned the donkey wheel in the hotel. He needed to get everyone together to get back to the island that time.

Since Jacob, Richard, Ben, etc. were all still in human form (unlike MIB) I believe they were able to take the sub to and from the island. That's the only logical reason I could come up with though.

One thing I did want an explanation to was...
How did Christian visit Jack off of the island? Since we are to believe that Christian's body was being controlled by MIB, and MIB can't leave the island, I don't see how this is possible.

Forgot about the sub. SO many of them blew up, it's hard to believe it ever made it off the island in one piece.

That is a question I had also. In addition, how did people see dead people from off the island, on the island? Just a mysterious power of the island?

Hurley obviously had a special ability to see dead people, but for the rest of them I think it was just their past haunting them. Not a MIB siting, but just their subconscious reminding them of what they'd left behind.

    Re: Lost synopsis

I am just choosing to leave it as is. I am sure down the line I will get into watching all of the episodes again, but I need some time away from this damn show. Could there have been a better name for the show? I think not.

I think it is more than that, though. Remember when Richard was in the Black Rock and saw his dead wife, then saw MIB right after? I am not saying she was MIB, and that seems to go against what we know, but there is more going on somehow. It is kind of a tricky one.

The off-island Christian is a big question mark.

    A couple of the questions I have . . .

    1. What is the island or what is its purpose? I'm sure people have their theories, but this is really unclear to me. For example, I'm left unconvinced that putting the plug back in and preventing the island from sinking was really a good thing. I don't know what consequences, if any, would result from letting it sink.

    2. What would have happened if MIB/Flocke got off the island? Same deal as #1, really . . . I just don't understand what would have happened if he got off or why it would have been so terrible. Would he have still had his smoke monster powers? Would he have brought hell to earth? Would he have been some regular dude walking around? Where was he going? Not like he knew anything about the outside world.

I don't think the island was purgatory... I believe that the island was real...

I think the parallel life where the plane didn't crash was purgatory.

I think they were all lost souls brouht to a place that can give their life a new meaning and a second chance. There they formed the most meaningful relationships in their life... and when each one died... they went to a purgatory where they lived out a regular life as if the plane never crashed until they all met back together after 'remembering' so they could move on with the people who they formed the strongest relationships with in their life.
