    Hypothetical recruiting question

Since ISU offered Gibbs today, and we would have 1 more scholarship available if he committed... how would you guys feel if we got him and Pomlee and left the class at that? I'm all about the Iowa kids, so I'd be curious to see how we could do as a program recruiting so many Iowans. Pomlee has dropped out of the top 150 after his injury but Meyer said some great things about him at the Boo Williams AAU tourney. Pomlee would add another athletic forward and I'd be all about that.

Of course I'd rather have a center like Zeller or Morgan, but we seem to be trailing with those guys. I'd be real happy with a Buckley/Eikmeier/Pomlee/Gibbs class.

Would we have any scholarships left for 09 then?

It'd be a disappointment after this current class.

No, we only have 4 scholarships to offer. If Gibbs takes one, we will have one more remaining for the class, or Pomlee under my scenario.

    Re: Hypothetical recruiting question

I'd like to have at least one scholarship open for 09. Of course, if Wes keeps progressing, the most likely scenario with him would have him gone after 08.

    Re: Hypothetical recruiting question

Really? I don't think Wes would be ready for the NBA after next season. I think he's a very quality player right now, but he's just not at that NBA level yet. I highly doubt we see any early entries after next season, but I could see 09 being an interesting year with WJ and potentially Brackins if he's as good as advertised.

    Re: Hypothetical recruiting question

Wes isn't nearly phsyically developed enough for the NBA. Also,he needs to show the ability to take guys off the dribble. 6-7 guys whose offense comes from 15 feet and out need not apply.

I don't know if he'll be developed enough, but I'm pretty confident he'll go pro if he feels he'll get drafted. And it's not because of Iowa State, either.

    Re: Hypothetical recruiting question

Not to be a negative Nancy, but let's not start talking about ANYONE leaving early for the pros anytime soon. I remember all the talk about Taggert being a one and done player, and look how he turned out. It would be great if Brackins really was that good that he could even think about leaving early for the NBA, but at this time, I think it's crazy to even talk about it.

    Re: Hypothetical recruiting question

I agree. Taggert might be one of the most overhyped recruits to come through Ames. He definitely had the potential but he had a long ways to go even with being sick. Enough of him though.

I think our class can be fine if Gibbs commits. We would HAVE to pickup a big guy tho with the remaining scholly. We will have guys in the program who can definitely play the post. Wesley Johnson will hopefully have filled out more and will be there for 3 more years. We will still have Brackins and Vette for 4 years. If we don't land a true big man in next years class, we will be able to cover it up but it will be that much more important to land one the next year.

    In GMAC we trust!

    Re: Hypothetical recruiting question

Yeah, it's probably pretty cocky to look two years into the future and count available scholarships, especially given the turnover in the last two years. It's certainly going to get better and more stable, but who knows what the situation will be then. If he is a player, let's go for it.
