    Capitol City League

I assume ISU will have guys participate again this summer? If so, does anyone know who will be playing? In particular, I would like to know if any of the incoming class guys will be playing. It is always fun to hear how the new guys look.

Disclaimer: I know that the Cap City performance of a player has very little to do with how he will perform in real games. However, I'm hungry for bball info year round. I'll take anything I can get.

Both Brackins and Brister have stated that they plan on playing. Both will be in Ames beginning in June.

Vette will be in the league, I just talked to him the other night. He's arriving in Ames in early June to start classes.

I'm excited that a lot of players are coming down and getting a head start on classes. It's nice that they can get one or two out of the way before they start the grind of practice and stuff during fall semester.

Just a friendly reminder to watch any face-to-face contact with prospects if you are a booster (and yes, a guy that signed a NLI is still considered a prospect until he reports to the team or starts his first day of classes). This is only allowed if you had a prior, non-sports related, relationship with the prospect prior to his/her start of 9th grade and is a NCAA violation otherwise.

It is good to hear Vette will be in the league. I assume most of the returning players that played last year will play again this year. Hopefully all the incoming players will play as well. I think we got near 100% participation (not saying every player played every game he was scheduled to) last year.

    Re: Capitol City League

I went to a few cap city games last year... it's nice because it's free and you can get a first look at the new freshmen... and yeah... maybe the cap city league doesn't perfectly predict how good your team is going to be. But when I saw Wes Johnson play... you could tell he was going to be special. If the posts from before the site got switched over were still here I'd requote myself. But he was amazing to watch. Also, I saw Jiri shoot threes all day long there as well. (And he started out doing that this last season). McIntosh looked really quick in the Cap City league... and that is the only thing that I really inaccurately predicted for the season. He didn't try to beat people on the dribble as much as I thought he would.

Anyway... it's a LOT of fun and I might try to take some time off of my new job to get down to watch a Cap City game or two!

You don't need to justify it to me. Just looking out for the better interest of the Clones.

    Re: Capitol City League

Is there a website with the cap. sched and team info pages? I work in Des Moines, so I want to catch a few games after work.

There hasn't been a website in the past, but once the league draft is finished, the Daily Worker usually prints the teams and schedule.

Isn't the CCL pretty much useless for developing post players???

Based on how Jiri played in it last year this statement holds water. All he did was chuck up 3 pointers. However Thompson did make Jiri his b!tch 1 game in the post too so I guess if you are dedicated to working on things it's possible to work on your post game but for Jiri he didn't look to interested at the time in playing down low. Maybe after GM got him to play like a big man if he plays in it again this year he'll take advantage of working on some post moves this time. But for the most part the league is run and gun with a lot of guys trying to go 1 on 1 or make a big dunk on a fast break plus a lot of 3 point attempts.

That's way I remember it. Hopefully it won't take GMac half a season to "unteach" Vette all of the bad habits he picked up in the CCL, like it did with Hubalek.

IMO, Jiri had all those bad habits long before last summers CCL.
