    Warning about recruiting article links

I just wanted to let everyone know something that I think is important. Last Monday, I was looking at the men's bb recruiting blog, when I clicked on a link to a news article about a player (I think it was one of the the new guards that we got - The last name started with an M - I think MacIntire, or it could have been Babb) - Sorry, I don't remember for sure.

Anyway, when I clicked on the news article link, I got a pop up window for antispyware soft. Antispyware soft is a fake security company that claims to remove viruses and spyware from your computer.

I instantly knew this advertisement was a fake, but I couldn't get the pop-up advertisement off my screen. I went to my task manager and tried to shut it down, but this didn't work. When I finally got the pop-up closed, it shut down my internet explorer. Then, it poped up every time I restarted my computer.

Antispyware soft is a virus/malware that can bypass even good security systems if you're not careful. I have Norton 36O security, but still ended up spending an additional 130 dollars to totally remove this malware/virus.

I want to let everyone know two things:

    1. Be cautious about links outside of cyclonefanatic to news articles about our BB players (within the last two weeks).

    2. If you ever see a fake add for antispyware or malware that tells you your computer is infected, don't click anything on it (even the red X that closes out the window). Type Alt F4 to escape.

Lastly, I'm only writing this thread to help, so you don't have to experience this same problem.

It really should be a no brainer, when clicking on links anywhere on the internet, use caution.

Re: Warning about recruiting article links

I do remember clicking on a link to the bleacher report.

The bad thing is that you may think you've removed the virus because like any good one, it makes you believe that you have uninstalled it. The pop-ups stopped for me after I uninstalled it, but it saved itself to a new name when my computer backed itself up. Over time it will multiply bog down your system. It also steals personal info.

Hit me two days ago. Good thing my little bro knows how to wipe my system and re-install everything;) On top of that, my wife is yelling at me and blames me because I'm always on "Iowa State message boards".

Crap, do I tell her it was my fault

Tell her you were surfing for porn instead. I'm sure that will go over well.

Re: Warning about recruiting article links

Really isn't a "recruiting article links" issue. It's linking to any half arsed, untrustworthy web site out there. Like Bleacher Report. Content is horrible so they sell advertising to malware peddlers. Classy.

You do realize this can happen with the google ads at the top of your page right now correct?

Unless of course you have ad block running.

Stop using IE and you will be much happier. And $130 is what they're charging to remove malware/viruses these days? Man I need to start requiring two bottles of Crown from my friends when I fix theirs:)
