    New Ames Restaurant News/Reviews

Ok, so I wanted to create a thread so people can voice opinions on either new places opening up, places moving, or new ownership.
    Some new places I've seen:

Campustown Mongolian place (old Battle's and Lucky's)
buffet mongolian (spelling looks weird from the hwy)
    Gyro Man taking over Battles?
Fighting Burrito moving to the old DQ on Welch
Angies Breakfast is now a Spanish themed place?
    That caffeinated store by Angies
Broiler is now reopening as something new?
    Mr. Burrito
Feel free to add something if I've missed it

Personally, I haven't tried any of them except for Battles, and it was still good. The pork wasn't exactly like it used to be, couldn't point a finger at it, but it was still good.

Again, I'd like to keep this thread orientated to new places and reviews or information, not try and hash out what is better, La Fuente or Azteca.

While we're not particularly new (about a year and a half old) I'm curious to see how many of you have been to Capanna Coffee, and what you thought of it. My parents and I own the place. I won't go into an advertisement about it unless you want to read it. But in short, we roast our own coffee, we have gelato, and we're located on 3329 West Lincoln Way (like right across the street from the Wendy's and near the Papa Johns)

The gelata at Capanna is great. Neat atmosphere too.

I haven't' had Capanna, I rarely get to that side of town. I will for some gelato sometime soon though. Props to you if you are roasting coffee, that awesome.

I live in West Ames and stop by Capanna every once in a while. The Gelato is great, my only advice is to stop making the lime jalepeno and only make the berry jalepeno. The berry is SO much better, the pepper flavor overpowers the lime.

Holy hell that's a lot of change in Campustown since I was there last (Veishea).

In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection.

Haha, I actually agree for the most part. But surprisingly, they both sell equally as well (from what I can tell anyway) Part of the thing though is rotating flavors in and out from time to time for looks and different flavors.

I really haven't been to any of those places with the exception of Fighting Burrito, but the fact they're moving is news to me. I just learned last night that Angies had become something different. I may have to go try these places out for good measure.

Not really all that new but the "Cafe" in Somerset is one of the top places in Ames in my opinon.

Looks like a nice place, I have not been there. The only thing I question is choice in location...seems like a risky locale. What was the reasoning behind the location? No other choice? Thought the west side needed a coffee place?

    There was one?

Vesuvius Wood Fire Pizza by Mongolian Buffet is pretty good.

FB is moving to the old DQ building next to Cy's Roost. Probably a smart move but I don't like to support Matthew Goodman in any way, shape or form so I couldn't care less.

The guy that used to own Bali Satay took over Angies. I've heard its pretty good and they still do breakfast.

And as if there weren't enough Mexi options, the old building on Welch that Es Tas first opened in is being renovated and turned into another mexican eatery.

I rarely eat out in Ames so I have no idea what the food is like at any of the other places. I would expect half these places to be out of business within a year of opening too.

It's nice to know that there are some more eating options moving to the campus town area. Hopefully some of these things can help revitalize the area just a little. Hopefully now students will eat at these places to keep them in business.

I got just a quick glimpse of this while I was back in Iowa (basically located on duff and 30, right?). Is this the franchise Mongolian BBQ or is this something entirely different?

Never argue with an idiot. They will bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience.
