I think going after the city is a stretch, but lawyers are just digging for gold.

Re: Creston Rape Victim Sues City, former Police

I'm from Creston and this just seems rediculous.... If she was going to sue she should have done it earlier and if all she was interested in was justice, as she said earlier, then she wouldn't be going after their money too.

The officers obviously did something wrong but they are put away now, no need causing more financial damage to the families who still have live their lives.

Not to mention she is a previous drug addict and her reputation is sketchy

This is, quite possibly, the worst post ever.

First, there is no statue of limitations on when a person can sue. Maybe she has had to have therapy to deal with what happened to her. Should she have to pay for that herself?

Second, nothing like dragging the victim's reputation through the mud to make a point. That's pretty freaking low. The two were convicted by a jury (or was it just a judge?) of their peers who believed the "previous drug addict with a sketchy reputation". That speaks volumes about the reputation of the two rapists, doesn't it?

My wife's from Creston and was a former bartender in town and those cops (pigs) were creepy dirtballs and the city is also to blame for letting the fuzz run rampant abusing the little power they had!!

No doubt about it, that post is ridiculous. Doubtful she wanted to be raped, or that being a former drug addict had anything to do with her getting raped.

Almost as ridiculous is the amount of people who can't spell ridiculous.

I can't remember if the officers were on duty at the time this happened or not. If they were, I don't think it's a stretch to sue the city at all.

Did I miss where he blamed the victim? Matter of fact, he blamed the officers by saying they obviously did something wrong.

I'm not saying I agree with everything the guy said....but you people are taking his post way too far.

This internet stuff is obviously important business.

Re: Creston Rape Victim Sues City, former Police

First of all I realize I spelled ridiculous wrong and I apologize. I was on break at work and typing quickly.

Second of all, the officers were/are total scumbags, I understand that. That wasn't my point.

3rd of all, I don't believe the officers were on duty, it was at a party at a country club and it was after midnight, they had been drinking.

My only point was to say that it seemed a little overboard to sue after justice had already been served.

If she can prove that the city hired the officers despite some signs that they were sleaze balls, then I am all for the city paying this woman a fortune in compensation.

They are from the area originally and they have been on staff for years so I doubt they would be able to prove anything, but you never know

I don't think you know the difference between criminal law and tort law. The people of iowa have had justice done via the criminal process. Now it's time for the victim to be conpensated for the wrongs done to her.
