    US Sets World Cup Roster

2010 World Cup: United States sets 23-man roster for South Africa - ESPN Soccernet

I'm disappointed that Brian Ching and Sasha Kljestan didn't make it. I thought for sure they would be on the roster. Kljestan has great control and passing ability, and Ching seems to have good chemistry with the guys. Thoughts?

I have no insight on the individual players, but the world cup is the one time I get excited about soccer. Hopefully the U.S. does well.

Actually, most people who post comments on ESPN's Soccernet articles will be very pleased with Ching and Kljestan not making the cut.

I'm happy to see Hercules Gomez make it, he has been on a scoring streak and we need offense.

The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.

Re: US Sets World Cup Roster

I've never thought Ching is as good as he gets credit for, so I'm not surprised or disappointed that he was left off. To me it seems like a lot of his goals come at meaningless times, or are just little garbage cleanups that anyone could knock in.

So glad Ching is not on there, never has impressed me and not someone who I think is ready to rise up to the challenge of the greatest stage.

Glad to see my friend JD made the team. Never would have thought he would gets this far back when he worked for me in 2001/02! A lot of young athletes. and people in general, could use his story as an example on where hard work and sacrifice can get you when all doors to a dream seem closed!

Re: US Sets World Cup Roster

Suprised Ching didn't make it only because he has been a Nat'l team (bob bradley) favorite for some time, even though he isn't very good. he probably played his best game for the US last night, which doesn't say much.

Klejstan is terrible. the last year and a half he finds members of the other team more often then he finds his teammates and you simply can't have that in the Central mid-field. Donovan, Dempsey, bradley, Feilhaber, Edu, Holden, Clark and Torres are all miles ahead of Sasha at the moment. Sasha only made the camp roster because Bob has favored him since he coached him at Chivas USA.

Klejstan's Nat'l team career reminds me of EJ's burst onto the seen (game against Sweden year and a half two years ago) and fizzled very quickly. he has been terrible for Club and Country the last year.

Re: US Sets World Cup Roster

i probably shouldn't single out Sasha. Bob clearly choose guys that have flexibility and versatility in the mid-filed over guys that can only play one position. IE, Beasely picked over Bedoya and the fact that Rodgers and Klejstan are staying home

agree with above, Klestjan hasn't been in form for well over a year, and with all the central mids we have, he didn't have a chance. I thought Robbie Rogers looked good last night though, he and Ching actually put in two of the better performances. Rogers isn't going to be a starter, but I thought he would have been an interesting weapon if you need some attack late in a game. How the heck did Findley make the team? Rogers or Ching deserved it more than him. I'm not a huge Ching fan, but if something were to happen to Altidore, we don't have another target forward on the roster.

Re: US Sets World Cup Roster

I don't follow soccer closely so pardon the ignorant question, but what is Freddy Adu up to? A few years ago he was hyped like he could be the best American soccer player ever so I guess I would have expected to see him on this roster.
