    De La Hoya got screwed

He controled the tempo the whole match, with exception of a few rounds. Floyd hardly threw any punches. He landed a good%, but Oscar was landing combos left and right. And Oscar pressed the whole night,. If it were up to FM they wouldve just thumbwrestled in the middle of the ring. A super match like this is what makes boxing a great sport, but outcomes like this in this dirty-dirty sport, make it what it really is. People just wanna get paid i guess.

Re: De La Hoya got screwed

I really hated the way Mayweather would throw a jab and run a circle around the entire ring. The entire match. And then he had the nerve to say during the post-match interview "I told ya'll I was gonna kick his ***." Yeah, I guess ***-kicking nowadays comes by a split decision and winning by one point. The cocky bastard...

I have also lost any respect I had left for Max Kellerman after he ripped the official for scoring 115-113 de la Hoya and saying that Mayweather controlled the fight, that it's not how many punches you throw blah blah blah. De la Hoya took the fight to Mayweather and Mayweather ran around the ring like a crying schoolgirl.

Re: De La Hoya got screwed

I would agree that Oscar controlled the tempo. The only rounds he really didn't control was during the end of the 9th, and then the 10 and some 11. Floyd is one cocky guy and I really hated to see Oscar lose.

It was interesting seeing Mayweather Sr saying that Oscar won the fight afterwards...if the points were used right.

What fight were you guys watching? De La Hoya didn't land a punishing blow all night and Mayweather was as accurate with his punches as one can get. I was definitely surprised that this was a split decision.

    I forgot about the fight

That and I would like to apologize to Rockets fans. When the Mavs went out I started to root for the Rockets - so this lose is my bad.

Re: De La Hoya got screwed

As a De La Hoya fan I must admit Mayweather probably won the fight on the cards. I think De La Hoya deserved credit for always walking forward but seldom does that translate into a victory in boxing. Reminds me of Hagler vs. Leonard...style over substance.

Re: De La Hoya got screwed

These are the first opinions that I have actually seen that thought De La Hoya won, everyone I was with (myself included) saw it for Floyd. Floyd fought his fight in this match- defense then counter-punches. Sure Oscar pressed forward (which at least made it interesting) but he wasn't getting a ton of punches in (especially power punches), and Mayweather was working his jab pretty accurately. I think this stat says a lot:

"According to CompuBox statistics, Mayweather landed 207 of 481 punches (43 percent). De La Hoya landed 122 of 587 (21 percent)."

Re: De La Hoya got screwed

To be the champ, you have to win decisively. If you get out punched as badly as De La Hoya did, you have no chance. The only crime commited in that fight was that it was a split decision.

"Ringside punching stats favored Mayweather heavily, crediting him with landing 207 of 481 punches to 122 of 587 for De La Hoya. Mayweather also landed more power punches than De La Hoya, outscoring him 138-82." from ESPN.

Casual fans don't like Mayweather's mouth, and that blinds them to his supreme talent.

I would say that De La Hoya did all right; he got paid $25 million while Mayweather rec'd $10 million

I agree 100%. The compubox numbers were WAY in the favor of Mayweather. I don't like him, but he won the fight. Oscar needs to hang em up, 3 losses in his last 5 fights.

Re: De La Hoya got screwed

What a boring fight. The most entertaining part was 50 cent escorting FM to the ring. Apparently 50 Cent had $1 million on Mayweather.

Puts the $25 I had on the fight to shame.

Re: De La Hoya got screwed

so you're talking about the fight where mayweather would throw a punch and run halfway across the ring as a dominating performance? the only reason why de la hoya didn't throw a dominating punch is becaues his arm isn't long enouch to reach the distance that mayweather stayed away from him all nite.
