    Basketball Recruiting Note: Josh Oglesby

Iowa Barnstormers head coach Jamie Johnson just told me that according to 2011 Cedar Rapids Washington prospect Josh Oglesby, Iowa State might be getting more serious with him.

"He (Oglesby) said that Iowa State has been showing more interest in him. Hoiberg has been in contact with him," Johnson said. "I don't really know a whole lot more than that. He just dropped that nugget on me in the van when I was dropping him off last night."

I'll see if I can't dig up a little more info on this later this week.

Oglesby has a handful of quality offers from the likes of: Creighton, Northern Iowa, Arizona State, Minnesota, Boston College etc.

Maybe it is because I live in Illinois, but I thought the Iowa Barnstormers was a football team. If so, what is the connection between their coach and Oglesby?

I am guessing that there is an AAU team that goes by the same name.

So, on his offer sheet the only one I really care about is Minnesota. I dont see how that is a good offer sheet. While some of the schools talking to him seem to be great, he is a fall back guy for most of them. I dont really want a good programs fall back guy. I know Ill get murdered for this, but I would rather battle over the first choice guys those programs are after.

NHL teams need to be added to the favorite teams section.

I'd consider Boston College a decent offer as well. I would agree with you about wanting recruits that are a little more sought after. But, reality says that with our last 4-5 years, we aren't going to be able to pick up unlimited major prospects, so guys like this will probably be needed to fill some of the role player positions.

It certainly doesn't happen often, but Wesley Johson was a cast off by most "big time" schools and a 2-star recruit if memory serves me right. His offer list wasn't very impressive either, so one never can tell by ratings and offer lists alone. I think he is currently projected as the 4th pick in this year's NBA draft.

Wesley Johnson also was an absolutely premier athlete.

Re: Basketball Recruiting Note: Josh Oglesby

I remember saying that I would rather have Oglesby than Uthoff before Uthoff was making a name for himself and so many people ripped on me saying Oglesby is only a mid major prospect. Obviously that is changing.

I'm not a huge Ogglesby fan. I've seen him play but it sounds like he's upped his game.

yep, hind-sight is 20/20. Nobody knew his capabilities (or athletic ability) during his recruiting.

I'm certainly not indicating that Ogelsby will be the next WJ, but I don't think it's fair to dismiss him when all the information we have is an offer list.

I dunno...remember the thread bashing the Uthoff offer way back when a couple of months ago? We were the first major offer and now he is garnering all sorts of attention. Now he has offers from Arizona State, Indiana, Illinois, and Butler.

Oglesby is a mid-major player that will somehow make it on a high D1 team. Not sure how. Ive played against him many many times, and he has never taken a game over. Only Jarrod has done that.

Moves really well without the ball. Maybe it's just the highlight or the team, but very active.

My question is, why would we offer when Babb is on board? Babb is a proven shooter and defender and will have two years to play starting in 2011. Oglesby would be behind him for two years at least. At the same time, we lose a starting PG in DG, so there is most likely more of a hole there than at SG. I'd use the scholarship on a JC PG. Then have a scholarship for a SG (like Gessell or Staten) the following year.

Just my opinion, but my priority for what's remaining of the 2011 class would be Uthoff and a JC PG.
