Movie Theater new releases to your home.

Hollywood Eyes Shortcut to TV - WSJ.com

"During a cable industry convention last week, executives from Time Warner Cable Inc. made the first formal pitch to the Hollywood studios for what is known as "home theater on demand." The cable company presented a variety of scenarios. But the main one, which has received early support from some studio executives, would allow consumers to watch a movie at home just 30 days after its theatrical release—far earlier than the usual four months—for roughly $20 to $30 a pop."

Not sure how I feel about this. If it were 20 bucks, it seems expensive, but in reality it may be cheaper than actually going to the theater for a family. If this were to catch on, movie theaters would hurt.

this is going to happen sometime, it could very well be later than sooner, but movie theaters have been hurting for awhile and it is only a matter a time before a move like this could happen.

I honestly don't have any desire to go to a movie theater anymore. I have a huge TV with surround sound and blu-ray. Why spend 20 bucks for tickets and popcorn? It seems as pointless as a 30 dollar rental.

re: Movie Theater new releases to your home.

I think I would still go to the same number of movies at the theater. I don't go to many movies but the ones I do go to, it is more for the atmosphere. Movies that need to be watched on a big screen and with the movie theater audio.

On the flip side of that, I would probably watch more movies with this option. There are quite a few movies that I would like to see but just wait for the DVD release. I would possibly watch those movies at home, given the option.

Here in town its 9 bucks per person. Half the time we wait until a movie goes to the 3 dollar cheap seats theater. They even have cheap popcorn, candy and drinks there. Cant beat that. Major theaters really rake us over. Now with 3D its worse. I hear they are going to hike 3D cost by 10 percent or something like that.

Watching on your big-screen-surround-sound at home instead of at a movie theater is like drinking a Budweiser in your basement instead of a Budweiser at a bar. It just tastes better at a bar when you pay 5 times the price!

If they release blu-rays early I might pay that much, but not for streaming content. compared to blu-ray on a large tv screen with 5.1 audio, streamed content just doesn't compare.

They would never release Blu-rays early because they would lose control of it. I would think this is more of a download and then watch situation rather than streaming.
