Agreed, its really good. I miss the days when everything on history was stuff like this, as opposed to stuff like pawn stars and pickers. Those might be nice shows, but shouldnt be on the history channel.

Fantastic show. One of the best documentaries I have ever seen.

I haven't followed the series ... I intended to do it, but I thought based on the previews it looked completely re-enactment I prefer a good balance of re-enactment and analysis. If I'm wrong about that, set me straight (then I'll have to catch up).

Re: America: The story of us

It's interesting, but it's an "inch deep and a mile wide".

You won't really learn much about American history from the show. They could take almost any snippet/subject and make its own 1-2 hour show. The aspects I'm more familiar with, I found myself saying "why didn't they go into this or that".

I like the show, but as with so much on TV these days, it could have been so much more.

I'm a History Channel purist, too. I see the obvious need to create more series probably from the ad revenue standpoint (similar reason why MTV morphed into something completely different after about 15 years).

Pawn Stars at least has a history link (and it can be amusing, too, although I don't feel like becoming a regular follower). I don't see that with shows like "Ice Road Truckers" and such I think some of History Channel programming is set up to appeal to specific sets of the channel's regular viewers, and not because it has a tight historical connection.

Which, now that I think about it, may have been what happened to MTV. And Discovery. And Nat-Gee-Oh.

Notwithstanding what I said above, I agree...the History Channel should be about history, not pickers or modern marvels.

Its a great show. I just wish more would pay attention to stuff like this.

Yeah, its definitely a "survey of" What it does do is go start to finish, era to era, hitting the biggest factors (but not all factors) of how we got to today. I'm a sucker for history, and some of the computer graphics are pretty neat. I like that they have notable people like Henry Louis Gates, a couple military guys, etc. but I'm not sure what Mike Strahan, Michael Douglas, or Meryl Streep know about history...

Love this series but like others have said it could have gone deeper and been so much more.

it would have to be a year-long series... not just 8 shows.

We've watched the first show, and have the rest on DVR. Can't wait to get back into them.

I enjoy modern marvels, but agree. Itd fit well on a generic learning channel. If only we ever had such a Learning Channel to air that on...

Re: America: The story of us

This series has been a major waste of my time. They're leaving major chunks of American history out of it.
