nothing wrong with mavs - they are an amazing team (thats why they won 67 games in the reg season.) Plain and simple: The Golden State Warriors have their number. they did in the reg season and postseason. just a team they can't seem to match up right against.

The Warriors will not make it past Phx or SA in the Conference finals (they could make it there). Dallas simply has no heart... Dirk is a second fiddle not a leader.

Re: what is wrong with mav's

Keep in mind GS is a different team than their record dictates. They did a mid season trade to get Stephen Jackson and Al Harrington which seriously updgraded their talent. Plus Baron Davis was hurt a lot this year. They had to dig themselves out of a hole from the beginning of the regualr season (record wise). Now they are finally healthy and playing together. Just an all around good team.

Re: what is wrong with mav's

I don't watch much NBA. In fact, I almost never do. I can't stand it.

Yet I've been hearing and reading about how great that series has been. So, I tuned in for a bit last night. Caught some of the third quarter. A couple things resonated with me...

    - Golden State really wanted it.
    - Dallas looked lost.
    - Golden State still really wanted it.
    - To me it looked like Dirk and Dallas were quitting.
    - Golden State really, really, really wanted it.
    - That atmosphere, from a TV viewer's perspective anyways, reminded me of college basketball.
    - Again, Golden State - they wanted it. Bad.

Re: what is wrong with mav's

As a Suns fan I'd be lying if I said I was sorry to see the Mavs knocked out. But the Suns have to get past the Spurs first. They scare the heck out of me. They're the only team that's been able to control the tempo against the Suns and get them into a half-court game. If the Spurs can slow down the game this series, I think they'll win. If not, I think the Suns win. (Not the most insightful analysis, but hey.)

Actually, I don't think the Mavs are as amazing as 67-win season might indicate. I watched a number of their games this year, and I thought last year's team was better. The Mavs were 15-11 against the Western Conference playoff teams, and many of the wins were close. They did a good job of beating up the weak teams in the West and the Eastern Conference teams. In other words, the Mavs didn't dominate the better teams in the West.

Also, a number of the Western teams were ravaged by injuries during the regular season. The Mavs lost Dirk for awhile, but did pretty well otherwise. Some of those injury-ravaged teams made it to the playoffs and are back at full strength.

Re: what is wrong with mav's

I think the biggest thing in this series was that Dirk Nowitzki played like a big ****. He showed absolutly no leadership the whole series. His comments after game four were pathetic. He pretty much threw in the toul after that game.

His hustle and performance was a joke in this series. What kind of MVP candidate plays that poorly in the playoffs? The difference between Bird and Dirk is Larry Bird had the nuts to go out and get the ball in the big game and get it done. Dirk is too busy peeing his pants. I was a big fan of Dirk until watching him in this series.

Re: what is wrong with mav's

I'm glad the Mav's lost because I'm a huge Suns fan and it makes our outlook a little better

I think Dirk gets away with some dirty elbowing and his arrogance just blows me away some times. He may be a great player but his leadership and teamwork abilities could use some help. Two years in a row now that he's been terrible at trying to "lead" his team in the playoffs.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

Re: what is wrong with mav's

What's wrong is they just got their butts kicked by a #8 seed. They may almost be like the Yankees, too much talent doesn't mean good chemistry and winning it all. In the NBA you can get by with 2 or 3 really good players then surround them with above average role players who play good defense, some rebounders, and guys that just know how to win. Just look at some of the recent champs. The Spurs and Heat only had a few really good players then a lot of above average role players around them to fill in the voids.

I really like what the Bulls have built. They don't have 1 superstar on that team but their starting lineup minus the PF spot is solid. PJ Brown still rebounds and plays defense and when you have a star in the making in Deng, Hinrich who is becoming one of the best PG in the game, and Gordon who is a terrific shooter then you have Big Ben to clean up the boards and be a force on defense. The bench is deep with Nocioni who does a little of everything and plays hard, Ty Thomas has had some nice moment, Duhon who can play great defense and run the offense, and some other nice role players who fill in the holes in a system where suffocating defense and sharing the ball on offense has worked well.

    You nailed it.

Golden State is coached by the man who build the Mavs, mentored Dirk and AJ and knows how to matchup.

From Game one when AJ adjusted the starting lineup to fit a chage by Nellie it was bad news. Golden State should be matching up with the Mavs, not the other way around.

Dirk is a good guy, he looks awkward on defense sometimes because he's 7 foot tall and all 7 footers look goofy. He's an amazing shooter and has and will keep the Mavs near the top for at least 5 more years. Remember Malone and Barkley never won titles either - Dirk still has chances left and when he ends his career you'll be able to talk about him in the same breath.
