    Congrats Danny Harris!

Good story about a Cyclone athlete who has had a tough time of it in life, but is making it back.

I was lucky enough to get to watch Danny run at the 1984 Olympics. I was working at the Coliseum at the time.....and one of my employees pointed out to me that someone from Iowa State was running the 400m hurdles. It was great to seem him come in second to the legendary Edwin Moses......Danny had to come from quite a ways back to take the silver.

Anyway.......congrats........it is always good to see stories like this.

    His 1984 Olympic Finals race:

The race where he broke Moses' almost 10 year streak of wins......like 122 straight races......sorry....it is in Spanish.

Great article. I still have a picture of Danny with my kids in his football uni when he was a freshman at ISU. Also talked to him after a track meet once and he was always very polite and friendly. Would love to see him helping out the ISU track team. Come on JP, let's hire another former Cyclone great.

Dittos to that...great to see him get his degree. He was a tremendous athlete and ISU enjoyed much press coverage because of him. I have a pic of him that I took at the 1984 or 85 homecoming game with his Olympic medal. Anyway...great news for Danny Harris and for ISU!!

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

    Re: Congrats Danny Harris!

    Congratulations, Danny!

Many here probably have no idea of what a phenom he was. Came to ISU on a football scholarship, as I recall, started running track and turned out as a freshman he was almost immediately about the best in the world - in an event so long dominated by one person sports fans everywhere knew it even if you weren't a track fan.

Unfortunately had some personal demons, that only came out later, and that you would never had guessed from his solid performances and steady character.

Excellent story. Again, congratulations, and let's keep it going, Danny!

Him stopping Edwin Moses long time streak of victories was global news when it happened.
