Texas AD Talks of forming Longhorn TV Network

Q&A: Texas AD Dodds backs Big 12 but is open to change | College Sports News | Sports News | News for Dallas, Texas | Dallas Morning News

Despite the talk of TV deals, do you think individual channels for specific schools remain an option?

I always thought that individual institution networks serve institutions better than the conference network. Texas people would rather be able to go to the Texas network and catch all of our sports and all of our events and all of our academic side rather than going to the conference network, where one-twelfth of the inventory will be Texas.

Re: Texas AD Talks of forming Longhorn TV Network

Small minded and self involved. Perhaps that meets the expectations of their fan base? Take a look at the Big 10 network.....there is plenty of airtime to go around, unless Texas fans like watching reruns of five year old volleyball games all day? A coalition of the Big 12 and PAC 10 would be strong enough to draw more than just the regional interest that a Texas only network would create. How the heck are you going to sell that to a large, national cable carrier or satellite company? You're not.

That does not sound like someone who is even thinking of the Big 10.

DeLoss Dodds kinda talks like the fat cat that ate the canary and smiles.

Hard to tell much from the softballs pitched at him, but it is a good link none-the-less.

They don't need the money and I'm sure they see no benefit by going to the big 10 it offers them nothing.

Re: Texas AD Talks of forming Longhorn TV Network

I think this quote from the comments says it all...

"I remember Mr. Dodd had similar remarks on the Southwest conference before Texas University led the demise of the conference."

ISU is dancing with the devil in the pale moonlight. We're being hobbled by the classic Texas greed, yet need them to survive in this BCS conference.

I think we should stick it out in the Big XII until a prettier girl comes along...

Not a big deal, they already have weekly/daily Longhorn programming on FSN. If they want to implement their own exclusive network in addition to a B12/P10 Alliance Network, all the power to them. But I'm sure braindead sports talk radio hosts will make this a bigger deal than it needs to be.

Another good reason for Mizzou and Nebbie "big red"....to get the HELL outta the inferior big 12 conference.....

Boys things are NEVER gonna change....Its always gonna be Texas All The F****** Time....

Jamie had better start looking for a new conference because rumor has it that....

Texas-aTm-Oklahoma-Okie Stat are ALL leaving for the SEC....

A big 12 conference....So Sorry but a five team conference wont fly Jamie.....

For once in your life Jamie...Be Pro-Active and start looking for a new home...

Dodds has mistakenly made the assupmtion that UT is the only game in Texas. I would be fine with them being an independent. They believe they have the Nat`l appeal of a ND, but that is not the case. The B12 is making it clear to UT right now that something has to change with the business structure of the conference. UT would never go to the B10. They would not have control, and they believe the B10 is a dinosaur when it comes to FB. They are very arrogant!

If ISU stands pat and does nothing pro-active, they stand to be left in the dust...AGAIN. This game of musical chairs is all about money. And if we are left standing when the music stops---well let's just say "Hello Mountain West Conference!"

All this is a result of a p**s poor TV contract spearheaded by a conference commissioner who was hand picked by Texas, OU, etc--how ironic. The commissioners third-rate TV contract may guarantee his job is eliminated--also ironic.

When MU & Neb can go from $8 million a year to $22 million in TV money, a move to the Big 11 is a no-brainer. Also, Texas and A&M are looking at the SEC and visa-versa due to the same issue.

The days of the Big XII being a top-flight BCS conference appear to be numbered.

Re: Texas AD Talks of forming Longhorn TV Network

Tom Shatel from the Omaha World Herald alluded to this about a month or so ago. It was the first I had heard of such an idea. In his article, he basically said this is the reason the Big 12 hasn't formed their own network yet. If Texas decides to form their own, it would be tough for the Big 12 network to make it.
