Former Iowa QB, NFL MVP Warner to be honored Friday night in Des Moines
DES MOINES, Iowa – The Iowa Barnstormers today announced Friday’s game against Arizona will be “Kurt Warner Night” as the Barnstormers legend and recently retired NFL star will attend the game and be honored in an on-field ceremony.
$13 ticket special to commemorate event
The Barnstormers (3-3) host the Arizona Rattlers (2-3) at 7:05 p.m. at Wellmark Field at Wells Fargo Arena. Barnstormers’ President Jeff Lamberti said the evening will include ceremonies, including acknowledging the retirement of Warner’s #13 Barnstormers jersey.
Warner, a native of Cedar Rapids and graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, put the Iowa Barnstormers on the map as the all-AFL QB led the team to back-to-back Arena Bowl appearances in the 1996 and 1997 seasons. His final game as a ‘Stormer was an Arena Bowl XI loss at Arizona. Warner then went on to lead the St. Louis Rams to victory in Super Bowl XXXIV, where he was named the game’s MVP. Warner was named NFL MVP in the 1999 and 2001 seasons.
“Kurt represents the very best of Iowa. He was a MVP on the field, but more importantly is a model citizen and community leader off the field,” said Lamberti. “We encourage Iowans to come out on Friday night and give Kurt a well-deserved thank you for all his contributions on and off the field.”
To recognize the Barnstormers most famous #13, Lamberti also announced the team will make all tickets in the 200/300 level available for only $13.
Additional details about Warner’s appearance will be released later this week.
Friday’s Arizona game will be presented by Toyota of Des Moines and will be televised nationally on the NFL Network. For more information or to order tickets, please call the Barnstormers at (515) 633-2255 or click here to order online.
