    Re: Rank the Decade

    Strictly on talent:

    1. 2000 - had more pro talent than '05, gets the nod.
    2. 2005
    3. 2002
    4. 2001
    5. 2004
    6. 2009
    7. 2006
    8. 2007
    9. 2008
    10. 2003

    Biggest Disappointments:

    1. 2002 - second half of season
    2. 2005 - easy schedule, lots of talent, inexcusable losses (Baylor, KU)
    3. 2006 - Compete meltdwon and easily could have gone 0-12
    4. 2003 (Didn't have expectations, but 2-10 was unacceptable coming off three straight bowl appearances)
    5. 2007/2008 - they get equal run for just how bad Chiz was

    Most overachieving/Most surprising:

    1. 2004
    2. 2009

    Best Teams:

    1. 2000
    2. 2005
    3. 2001
    4. 2002
    5. 2004
    6. 2009

    Re: Rank the Decade

Maybe im way off, but 2007 was better imo than 2006 and 2008. The 07 team did under go a staff change and did have some NFL calibur talent and a decent defense. The defense ranked around 60-65 that year. The defense that year kept things manageable. ISU almost had a reliable unit that season.

2008 had a much improved offense, but keeping in mind that ISU was eternally down by 14-20 points all game long and needing to pass most downs probably played a role in the offense posting close to 30 a game or whatever.

2006 was a down right miserable defensive effort.

    Re: Rank the Decade

I expected to see some disagreement between 2000 & 2005 (and I assume, if ISU had won the North, '05 would hold the edge if we also won the bowl game).

No surprise that 06-07-08 ranking drew debate — f06 and 07 especially seemed like a coin-flip.

    Re: Rank the Decade

    1) 2000. We end a 23 year bowl drought, with our first bowl victory ever, and get 9 wins, our most ever. Gotta be #1.

    2) 2005. 4 freaking plays from an undefeated regular season, win over a top 10 team.

    3) 2009. New coach. NO expectations. 5 win turnaround. First win in Lincoln since REO Speedwagon was still good. 3rd bowl win in school history. This year has been criminally underrated in other polls.

    4) 2004. Again, look at the lack of expectations, and the inexperience. Another year that we were inches from something unprecedented. Not to mention bowl victory #2.

    5) 2001. A solid year, but it lacks a real marquee win, although the Nov Iowa game was fun. SHOULD have been our 2nd bowl victory. The kick was good.

    6) 2002. The worst of bowl years, simply due to the utter, spectacular, and disgusting collapse which ended in humiliation at the hands of UConn, and then on the smurf turf. All the greatness of the first half of this season washes away in the flood of failure to end it.

    7) 2007. The best of the losing years. Dramatic victory over Iowa, after arguably the worst loss in the past 15 years of Cyclone football. Good wins over CU and KSU, and THIS close to beating OU. A year that started like crap, but showed some promise.

    8) 2008. The best 2-10 team I've ever seen. Not sure what that says.

    9) 2003. Ugh. We knew they would be bad, but holy crap, were they BAD.

    10) 2006. Ranks this low due to expectations, our complete inability to hang against anyone outside of the cupcakes we SCRAPED by (and the bizarre Mizzou game), and the fact that we were 4 plays from being 0-12. Just one year after being 4 plays from 11-0, we reversed field while returning the entire offense. Quite a feat.

'09 may have a disadvantage because it hasn't had as much time to "age." The bowl win is a boost. The NU win obviously was historically significant and pointed to a rallying point for the program's future.

For me, there wasn't a lot of separation between, say, 3rd and 6th. Another win here or there and it swings the pendulum. Had the 2009 team won even 1 of 2 vs KSU/KU, it may be a different story.
