Tyson Gay runs 19.41 in straight line 200m

MANCHESTER, England -- American sprinter Tyson Gay broke a 44-year-old record for 200 meters run on a straight track as part of his drive to challenge Usain Bolt for sprint supremacy.
Gay ran 19.41 seconds into a slight headwind Sunday on a specially constructed track, shaving 0.09 off the mark Tommie Smith set in May 1966 at San Jose, Calif.

I can't wait to see those 2 race against each other

I still think Bolt destroys him. Has Bolt run a full race hard yet?

Why did they run it in a straight line? Is that normal? I would think that would make the time faster than on a oval track.

No, he hasn't. But Gay is impressive. I think Bolt wins but not really destroys him.

Bolt is a freak. I wonder what he could do in the Long Jump.

I would like to see what Bolt could have run 200m in, in a straight line. Once he gets going, his strides are ginormous.
I also want to see him in the 400m, I think he could do well in that race.

yep....running a 200 in a straight line proves nothing to me in a real meet....running turns is a technique in its own right when running a real race

I've heard that he is training to run the 400. He'll own any record he wants 100-400. I wonder if he has even thought of hurdles.

Now that MBB is back, do we still have to pretend that WBB matters?

    Good to know!
His running form always reminded me of Michael Johnson's. So smooth with big strides.

re: Tyson Gay runs 19.41 in straight line 200m

Just for the record, yes Bolt has run a full race all the way out, on multiple occasions. And when he runs at his best he is untouchable in the 200m. 19.19 is one of the most incredible times in any track event ever and when he is running at his best he has the ability to do it again or even shave a few more hundredths off.
