Is the MWC an a****id league with this proposed expansion?

The current MWC consists of the following 9 teams:

    BYU
    TCU
    Utah
    Colorado State
    Air Force
    San Diego State
    New Mexico
    UNLV
    Wyoming

If the MWC is really serious about getting an a****id...I'd propose they add the following 5 teams:

    Boise State
    Houston
    SMU
    Hawaii
    Fresno State

That would actually be a pretty darn strong conference in football...though it would need some development in basketball to be any good there. Also, maybe most importantly, the above conference would have the demographics to succeed. It consists of 2 teams from California and 3 teams from Texas - almost half of the league members would be from the two largest states in the country. I think the above would definitely be an a****id league.

On a side note, would ISU be interested in jumping into the above conference, assuming, of course, that it does become an a****id conference? This would give ISU a somewhat geographic and realistic option outside of the Big 12....I wonder if Pollard would consider getting into the above league.

    Remember the WAC from 96-99?

The history of 16 team football conferences lasting is not bright.

This would be a 14 team conference, not 16.

If the MWC adds BSU they deserve am automatic bid. Period. If they add all of those teams you stated, that would be a great conference.

If they do, ISU, KU and KSU should head west. Their TV contract is as good as the Big 12 now without these schools.

Uh, why? That'd be beyond stupid. You do realize we would have to fly damn near everywhere right? At least now we can bus non-revenue sports to Manhattan, Lawrence, Columbia, and Lincoln.

Sounds good, great idea be reative instead of proactive. Uh and Columia and Lincoln may be out of the question in two years. So that leaves Manhatten and Lawrence, hence my post!

and what happens if you're proactive for absolutely no reason?

Now we can at least fly to Oklahoma and take care of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State in one flight for non-revenues.

I'm also sure the athletes would LOVE to have to fly back a time zone or two for any athletics events. Not everyone travels just on Friday like football. It'd be really cool for the women to have to fly to San Diego Tuesday night for a Wednesday night conference game and have to be in class Thursday. Sounds very conducive to the student-athletes. Let's not forget I'm sure those school would just LOVE to have to fly to Ames. That doesn't cost anything.

Here is an honest question, you had $1,000 today would invest in the longevity of the Big 12 or the MWC? The Big 12 is what we accountants like to call a "going-concern."

The time zone thing is a very good point that I had not considered. Many people agree that Texas will never join the PAC 10 for that reason....having all your prime time football games start at 9PM Texas time is very annoying.

However, keep in mind that "student-athletes" probably make up less than 1% of the student body....so what is "conducive" to student athletes won't always take precedent over what will benefit that school as whole.

It's not that easy. Iowa State gets research money from the Big 12. Iowa State can sell the Big 12 to recruits. Aren't you the same person who said recruiting ties would be hurt if Iowa State left the Big 12 for the Big 10? Same exact thing applies here.

If it was all about travel, we would have been in the Big Ten when they decided to expand. I am far more worried about TV, quality of competition than I am travel. Does it really take that much longer to fly to San Diego? I just don't see travel as being the most important aspect.

I didn't even think about the $$$ side of things yet. Iowa State's budget would take a HUGE hit if we left the Big 12.

The budget will fall with the suspense surrounding the Big 12. If the MWC continues to expand, so will the revenues. Also they have their own network already, as the conference expands so will the coverage and revenues. Dude the Big 12 is ready to implode!!!
