Notre Dame will not join the Big Ten!

Get over it. ND is a control freak just like Texas. If it wants to be in a conference for its football team, then it will form one that it controls just as TX controls the Big 12. I've given some thought as to who would join them in forming a new conference if ND chooses to do so:
Army and Navy -- ND's natural rivals and have large national followings. Would love the money a ND conference would pull in.

UConn -- Well established MBB and WBB traditions, and "up and coming" football wise, and another "natural" rival from the Big East.

BYU -- A premier religious university with the academic credentials to be with ND and has a national following as well.

Syracuse -- a nationally renown private university who would love the money a ND conference would get them; if not already in the Big Ten.

Maryland -- if they're looking to leave the ACC, and not in the Big Ten already, then the Terps are a natural fit for this conference.

Pitt -- if not in the Big Ten, then their MBB and FB traditions would make them a serious candidate for this conference.

Louisville and Cincinnati-- not as strong, academically, as the above schools, but their strong MBB traditions along with vastly improved FB programs would make them serious candidates.

Nebraska -- a strong FB tradition and very strong academically makes the Big Red a serious candidate. If they are not already a part of the Big Ten.

Iowa State -- a nationally renowned science and engineering school with a strong, but rebuilding MBB tradition, and a rising FB program. Academically, ISU is a viable candidate for this conference despite its foundation as a Land Grant college.

Kansas -- if it can be separated from K-state, KU has the academic qualifications to be a viable candidate for this conference. It's nationally renown MBB program makes them an even more attractive school.

Boise State -- a very strong FB program makes BSU a serious candidate for this conference. Not sure about its academics.
Other schools that may be considered -- K-state as a partner to KU, Baylor for its nationally renowned med school and strong MBB program as well as being a private religious university, Tulane as another catholic university, Rice for the same reason as Tulane, and Virginia Tech for its very strong engineering tradition.

I realize this thread is pure speculation and fantasy, but it's fun to think about. If you can think of any other schools who would be viable to be in a conference headed by Notre Dame, feel free to add in as I know you will.

    no link?

j/k I've completely ignored pretty much all of the conference rumors. Until a move is actually made I'm not buying anything.

Notre Dame would not give a rat's *** about Iowa State, Louisvill/Cincy, or Boise.

News flash, ND could not give a rat's *** about anyone in the B10 either. The chance of ND every joining a conference willingly is around .00000001%.

Now that MBB is back, do we still have to pretend that WBB matters?

Ok, this MIGHT be the worst one I've seen yet after a quick scan.
Boise State? Absolutely no way in hell.
    Army? See Boise State.
    Navy? See Boise State.
    BYU? See Boise State.
    Baylor? See Boise State.
    Tulane? See Boise State.
    Rice? See Boise State.

Re: Notre Dame will not join the Big Ten!

I've always thought it was idiotic for ND to remain an independent. If they ever want to sniff another national title again they had better swallow their pride and line up with the Big 10 or even the Big East. Power, money, and recruits go to BCS teams period (to say nothing about an atomatic BCS bowl game). No matter how amazing Notre Dame's tradition is, it means crap if they are not playing in a legitimate BCS conference. How many independents have won a national championship game latley? How many non BCS schools have gone undefeated only to settle for a bowl championship rather than a national championship? In todays college football landscape, the only path to the BCS title game is through a BCS conference.

In addition to re-legitemizing their FB program, joing the Big 10 would make sense acidemically. The Big Ten is more or less the Ivy Leauge of the midwest and ND would be a perfect fit. Geographically it makes sense too. In the Big ten they would be surrounded by natural rivals like Purdue, Michigan and Ohio State...hell they already play Purdue, Michigan, and Michigan St. in football every year...why not just join the Big Ten and upgrade the rest of your schedule? Finally, with the riches of the Big Ten revenue sharing system at their disposal they would be marrying into a wealthy family. Sure, they might not make as much as they do now, but the boost to their athletic prestige would be well worth it. Joining the Big Ten would hardly make them paupers, and they would be considered a legitimate football power again.

As it is now, Notre Dame just looks like an outdated football program that is too proud to conform to modern college football. They still act like the world revovles around them, but really no one takes them seriously outside of South Bend.

Well, lets add Stanford, Duke and Vanderbilt in that conference since you are talking academics and sports!

Adding Boise State makes your entire list a COMPLETE joke. BSU is a glorified junior college. I don't care how good their football program currently is...

The OP is half right. ND will NOT join the Big 10... period. But they also will not form their own conference either.
