    Revenue Sharing

As far as the revenue sharing issue goes, the Big 12 made $103.1 million in the past year. Here's how it was divided:

    1. Texas: $10.2 million
    2. Oklahoma: $9.8 million
    3. Kansas: $9.24 million
    4. Texas A&M: $9.22 million
    5. Nebraska: $9.1 million
    6. Missouri: $8.4 million
    7. Texas Tech: $8.23 million
    8. Kansas State: $8.21 million
    9. Oklahoma State: $8.1 million
    10. Colorado: $8.0 million
    11. Iowa State: $7.4 million
    12. Baylor: $7.1 million

If this money is divided evenly, it comes to 8.59 million per team. (Kansas BB must make a ton of tv money for them)

I don't think that revenue sharing is the answer to the Big XII problem. The problem is the amount of tv revenue coming in. Unfortunately, there's not much that can't be done because a large part of how much revenue can be produced is demographics (ie tv subscribers). If and when the Big XII (maybe with the PAC 10) get a new TV network deal done, I really doubt it improves very much.
Even if it doubles (very, very doubtful), that still only 17 million. It would still be in NU and MU best interests to move to the Big Ten.

Anyway, I see so much talk about the revenue sharing aspect on this board and how that is a major cause of the Big XII's (ISU's) problems, I disagree. Now, I'm sure it would benefit ISU to have the extra 1.2 million a year, but that's not what is keeping ISU down.

    Re: Revenue Sharing

I agree with the main idea that the $2.8 million gap between ISU and Texas in TV money isn't our biggest budgetary issue. The lack of TV money and appearances in general is a much bigger problem.

First of, do you have link for these numbers? I've never seen them so I'm curious.

Second, both the revenue distribution, and the total revenue are problems. I think everyone agrees with this. It's just that ISU feels the effects of unequal distribution more than other schools.

Seriously, that's the part you respond to. A little sensitive I guess.

Don't have a link. Saw them on a MU board, so they could be wrong. I haven't seen the distribution elsewhere either. I thought they were interesting.

    Re: Revenue Sharing

Those numbers have been around here somewhere before.

I think the point that we notice the lack of revenue/sharing with our much smaller budget overall is solid. Obviously, it doesn't exactly hurt Texas if they give up $1 million on the TV deal, since they practically print their own money there.

Did you have this committed to memory or did you have to look it up. A little sensitive I guess.

Nebraska is almost as hard-headed and thick-skulled as Texas in the matter.

    Re: Revenue Sharing

Those numberse may be from a few years ago, because I think last year the big 12 distributed 130 million.

Going back to the revenue sharing, 2.8 mil difference is not that big now, but when we get a new TV contract (whether from big 12/pac 10 deal or a new big 12 TV contract) that gap is going to get bigger. That gap could be 5, 6, 7 or 8 mil which is a big deal for the small schools.

    Re: Revenue Sharing

I've always thought the revenue sharing card was overplayed.

That said...it's only a million or two difference. That would go alot farther at ISU than at Texas.

Correct. The 2009-2010 numbers will probably be released at the upcoming Big 12 spring meeting in June. As the Big 12 did not have 2 BCS teams this past year as it did in 2008-2009, revenue may go down a little bit. Hopefully, that revenue was made up somewhere else.

Nebraska was the lone school from the old Big 8 to vote against the formation of the Big 12 and has been the lone school from the old Big 8 to consistently vote against anything that has benefited the south.

Sounds like to me that Nebraska's counterparts in the North are the ones that are hard-headed and thick-skulled.

thick skulled and nothing in your skull two different things, not enough people in the state of fuskers to make a difference
