    Casino vote

4 casinos are voted on in IA today. I hope Tama Co gets one. There are many casinos in the state and one 5 miles away from where this would go. It would greatly help the towns and I think would be okay here.

What say you on more casinos?

Can't see how a second Tama Casino would last, specially when you consider Cedar Rapids will most likely approve one next go around in 2011.

i am all for casinos, but i can't figure out why a small town like Tama needs 2. Maybe I'm missing something but I think its rediculous if Tama gets one.

    Re: Casino vote

From what I've heard from a buddy who works with state politicians, Tama county is the longest shot, while Lyon county is the most likely. Fort Dodge and Ottumwa are somewhere between those two.

A very close family friend is a state rep and he put Tama at about 90-95% of getting one.

That very well could be. I wouldn't be surprised to see all four get one. We'll see.

Meskwaki is, imo, the best casino in the state, and I have been to all but Dubuque. The one way I really seeing it making it is with bus trips. Meskwaki get 23 buses a day from Chicago and some more from Minneapolis, KC, etc. I can see those outfits staying one night at Meskwaki and another night at the new Tama casino instead of 2 nights at Meskwaki.

The one big factor is that Meskwaki has publicly opposed this casino the last month. That is a 180* turn from what they have been saying publicly. Remember, Meskwaki is their own soverign nation and Iowa doesn't get anything from them.

    Re: Casino vote

I always wonder why anybody votes against Casinos. They bring a ton of revenue into the area and to the state as a whole. They pay so much money that goes to schools and other areas, which is especially important in economic times like these.

If you don't like them personally, its easy to just never go.

    Re: Casino vote

I think it would be completely stupid to put one in tama, Ottumwa badly needs one. There is a company that says if ottumwa gets the casino it will build a 32 million dollar entertainment center right across the street. Ottumwa needs this badly, they have the highest unemployment rate in the state and it would put a lot of people back to work.

    Re: Casino vote

I think there are enough casinos in Iowa. At this point they are just starting to take each others customers. Just wait until some of these other states decide to get into gaming. Some of these border casinos will get killed. I guess I don't care as long as there are no bailouts.

I think there are enough also. Like I said, the one reason I think Tama gets one is b/c of the traffic Meskwaki gets from surronding states. They do get a lot of people from MN, which has casinos. It pulls in a lot of out of staters.

I was there a couple weeks ago and playing craps. A couple other guys there were vistiting and they bouth came from KC w/wives to stay 3 nights. That is surprisingly common.

He must like using percentages. Anyway, I'd say 65% is a pretty solid chance when you consider all four getting one.
