    Beginning of the end?

Well as I was getting ready to leave my house I was listening to KXNO and Miller & Deace. As expected they were talking about Big 10 expansion and they were all giddy with excitement. Deace then said this could start the end of the NCAA. Miller also said that this could be the beginning of the end. Since I am inept to their words I thought some of you could sound off.

What ever happens will happen. I'm not going to get too worked up about it.

How do they figure it will be the end of the NCAA?

I don't think this means the end of college sports. I think he was implying it might be the end of the NCAA as the organization overseeing college sports. If I'm way off, set me straight.

It's comforting to know that Deace is still incapable of coming up with an original thought (this has been discussed in the media for weeks)...

64 teams from 4 megaconferences could instead join NAIA and keep the money from football and basketball.

In there defense I think they have mentioned the demise of the NCAA a couple of times over the past few weeks. I think the OP must have heard it for the first time today.

Holy crap - did I just defend those clowns?

Wow - St. Ambrose will go from being irrelevant to a national player overnight. Davenport had better make immediate plans for expanding Brady St Stadium...

    Re: Beginning of the end?

Obviously from a money standpoint its good for the Big 10. A few concerns I have thought of:

If the Big 10 brings in Nebraska, Notre Dame, and Missouri, those teams are more than capable of rising up and competing for BCS spots. I think the traditional power houses will see more losses, and it might dilute the conference further from sending a team on to the national title. The big boys like to fatten up, so woudln't they want to bring int a couple teams like ISU or KSU?

If the Big 12 dissolves, then does that lower the amount of bowl matchups?

Remember that stressed spelled backwards is desserts!

    1. Deace is full of more original thoughts than anyone on this board.
    2. This is the hottest topic in sports right now. Boston beating Cleveland again is good, but not college football reallignment good.
    3. Its talked about every day on here because there are a lot of posters with a lot of opinions, which is why this site is around. Advertisers come because people are here.
    4. This is huge news, it may work out for ISU, but it may not, and since we are ISU fanatics, its the most important news every day on this site. Certainly more important then 75% of the posts on this board about flooding in backyards, what i ate for breakfast and how that will affect my day, baseball, shawn johnson, baseball, etc...
    5. People keep clicking on links about it, read the post, and then say they wish they didnt read it...??? what the ?
    6. this isnt just to the " " poster, because he didnt say most of this, just general thoughts.

    Re: Beginning of the end?

I wonder if anyone at ISU is trying to do anything about this or if everyone is sitting around doing nothing. In the off chance the B12 does fold and ISU is on the outside looking in it is bad for ISU athletics but I have to think it is bad for ISU as a whole.

Lower sports programs with 4 competing universities around you better funded could mean lower enrollment, which would bring a host of other problems I would think. Good example, my nephew is going to ISU this year, would he be there if he wasn't an ISU sports fan? Probably not. So longer term, if ISU isn't playing at the highest level, you are going to lose those students I think.

I just wonder if this pans out worst case scenario for ISU (still think unlikely) if it would harm the university and not just the athletic program.

Jaime isn't the type to just sit around and see what happens. Not sure what he's doing, but definitely something.
