    Wow.

I can't believe he's selling the car. Few cars ever have that much personal history with them.

I had heard somewhere that the original Dukes series went through something like 65 Chargers during its run ... anyone else have more accurate info?

Re: For all you Dukes of Hazzard fans

I think 65 is close. I know that for some they kept reusing the same cars. On the bright side, its not like they were out wrecking 440 6 packs or Hemis...most of the cars that were used for stunts were shells with 6 cyl engines, and so while sad that such a sweet car was crashed, at least it wouldn't be one of the uber valuable models now.

Re: For all you Dukes of Hazzard fans

Well in the TV show I heard they wrecked at least 1 General Lee an episode and 2 cop cars on the average. The movie I can't remember. I think they mentioned something about it in the extras though and I think they even used some modified '68 Chargers since the body style was the same but the grill and tail lights were different so they were easy to make look like the '69 model.

I've always said if I struck it rich I wanted to get a '69 Charger to fix up and probably paint black. I can't believe John is selling this car though. I've seen specials on how much he loves that car. Wonder if he's hurting for money or something or if this is a joke.

    The General Lee

    • The General Lee was a souped-up 1969 Dodge Charger. It was orange with a Confederate battle flag painted on the roof, and the words "GENERAL LEE" over each door and the number "01" on each door. In the first episode ("One-Armed Bandits"), a confederate flag along with a checkered racing flag in a criss-cross pattern could be seen behind the rear window. The name refers to the American Civil War Confederate General Robert E. Lee. Since it was built as a race car, the windows were always open, a rollbar was installed, and officially the doors were welded shut, although of course in reality they were not. Through the history of the show, an estimated 309 General Lees were used. Twenty three are still known to exist in various states of repair. The show also used 1968 Chargers since the start (which shared mostly the same sheet metal) by changing the grill and taillights to the 1969 model year style, and smoothing over the round '68 side marker lights, which were rectangular on the '69 model year. These Chargers performed many record-breaking jumps throughout the show, almost all of which resulted in a completely totaled car. The Duke boys had added a custom horn to The General which played the tune of the song "Dixie." The show itself purchased hundreds of Chargers for stunts, as they generally destroyed at least one or two cars per episode. (Real Chargers stopped being used for jumps at the end of the show's sixth season, and were replaced with miniatures or recycled stock jump footage.)

The movie was filmed where I live and they had a parking lot full of "General Lees"...not sure how many were used...but I know it was more than 10.

As for the TV show, I believe they used way more than the 60 or so others have quoted...I thought it was about one per week...at least that is what Roscoe P. Coltrain told me!!

I just see above that psycln11 got the number from the tv series...309.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

Not sure, but they would probably be worth as much as the General Lee...

Although she has really gone downhill since she was on the TV show(not the movie). Got drugged out and now looks 15 yrs older then her actual age.

I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone.

Ya, I went there and seen what there rate was. 6.55% for the used car rate. Also assuming I would have to beg them to amortize it over 5 years even though it is older then a 2003 model. I can come up with $500 for a down payment. If all those things are able to be done, my monthly payment would be $193,950 / month so it would be like me being able to buy my house plus some furnishings 12 times a year.

    SCARY MAN...........
