I wonder if teams know something about Deandre's knee that we don't.

Re: FoxSports.com Top 10 Best Players Not Drafted

I heard and read that his workout went very well. He showed good speed and agility. So, I don't think that was it.

Many times, a player of DeAndre's caliber that suffers an injury, will put out a workout video to all NFL teams. In at least one very well known case, the video has been known to sway NFL teams. No such video from DeAndre.

Perhaps after the workout, something changed with his knee and scouts found out about it. Who knows.

But based off what the public knows, it's very curious that he didn't at least get picked up in the 6th or 7th round. And still, has not been signed to an undrafted free agent contract.

Something isn't quite right with that situation. Very sad for DeAndre, he missed out on a ton of money.

He was a great player BUT did get toasted a bit last year when he ws healthy. (well the whole D did too I guess) Sucks bigtime his knee went out.

I hope he heals up and hopefully can find a spot somewhere.

I do not get why he doesn't have a FA contract yet. How can you not take a chance on him at least?

They most certainly know more about his knee than "we" do.

These players are subjected to an array of x-rays, mri's, blood tests, etc.

You aren't going to spend money on a house unless you have it inspected right? NFL teams aren't going to spend millions of dollars on a football player without knowing all the facts.

But picking him up as a free agent isn't them spending millions. It's a no-risk acquisition. I'm guessing he's hurt.

The Chiefs could use a young CB and with trading Dante Hall a kick returner as well.

Re: FoxSports.com Top 10 Best Players Not Drafted

It was interesting, I was listening to M&M yesterday *gasp!* on the way to the gym and they were talking about DeAndre. Also surprised by him not getting picked.

They asked a guy they had on the show from Fox Sports about him - this guy felt if DeAndre was healthy - he could've been a first round pick. Marty felt that was a big stretch and Miller kind of agreed, yet felt 2nd round was more like it.

I did agree with them, I don't think DeAndre showed 1st round talent in Ames. Heck, I remember him getting torched in the Illinois State game and fans ripping on him for it. Perhaps I'm thinking of LaMarcus Hicks, although I'm almost sure DeAndre was the one that struggled early that season.

Anyways, M&M were talking about what a great talent DeAndre was, even better than Hobbs. I agree he was a good talent, yet I think some build him up to be more than he was. Better than Hobbs? I disagree there. I think the reason some like him better is because he's a few inches taller.

Anyways, this isn't to discredit what DeAndre did for us in a Cyclone uniform. I loved him and wish him well. He was a pleasure to talk to the two times I met him and seems like a great guy. Definitely didn't deserve to miss out on the great NFL opportunities that were in front of him - especially during such a horrible season.

Are you sure that he ran at either the combine or the ISU Pro Day. The only results that I have seen published show that he did 14 & 13 bench reps with no other measurements. The NFL site lists DNR for the 40. The Pro Day results standing on everything but the bench. I could very well be looking at incomplete reporting. OTOH, the lack of response suggests that there might well be recovery issues.

I'm also wondering about another issue. Isn't DeAndre the guy on the team who is missing a kidney? I remember that it was one of our recent DB's, but am not positive that it was him. If he is the guy with this condition it could make the pros reluctant to sign him. Simply from a risk standpoint even though it does not impact ability.

I'm almost sure he had an individual workout after the pro day, when he had recovered and was ready to perform.

You're right, it was Deandre. Hicks saved his 10 seconds of fame getting torched for New Year's Eve that season down in Houston.

I'm a very big Deandre Jackson fan, but our pass defense did not get worse when he got hurt. It was equally bad all season long.

So if he has that much talent, it was a scheme thing. He showed great athleticism the year he played with Ellis, so it is possible.

Wasn't it also Hicks that came back with a huge interception (and a rather athletic one) around midfield that sparked out comeback?

It is Deandre who has one kidney--he gave the other up for his sister, IIRC.

So in the NFL's eyes, he has two strikes against him already. That may explain what's going on here.

    Yes, I believe so.
