Don't We Have a Chipola Connection in MBB?

    From todays Press-Citizen:

Iowa is among the schools recruiting Victor Dubovitsky, a 6-foot-7, 215-pound small forward from Chipola Junior College in Marianna, Fla.

Dubovitsky, a native of Moscow, Russia, signed with Texas A&M under coach Billy Gillispie but was released from his scholarship after Gillispie resigned to become the coach at Kentucky.

Dubovitsky averaged 15.5 points and six rebounds per game while leading Chipola to a 33-3 record and to the NJCAA championship game this past season.

He transferred to Chipola after averaging 13.7 points and nearly five rebounds per game at Salt Lake Community College in Utah.

Do we want one? Especially after Chippewa's finest Mike Taylor's repeated hijinks?

You can't say that recruits from there will all be like Mike Taylor. I understand why you are worried though.

Besides Taylor, Assistant Coach TJ Otzelberger was an assistant there.

    Release: 07/17/2006
T.J. Otzelberger, a former AAU coach and assistant at Chipola JC, is in his first season with the Cyclones. Otzelberger spent last season with the Los Angeles-based AAU club Double Pump Elite, a prominent organization which operates basketball events that attract the nationís best players to help them gain exposure. In his only season with the club, Otzelberger coached Alex Stepheson, who signed with North Carolina, Alex Jacobson, an Arizona signee, and Oregon Stateís Calvin Haynes.
A native of Milwaukee, Wis., Otzelberger was an assistant at Chipola Junior College in Marianna, Fla., during the 2004-05 season. The Indians finished the year at 33-4 and won the Panhandle Conference title in Otzelbergerís only season at CJC. The Indians, who were led by All-American and current Oklahoma State star Mario Boggan, placed fourth at the 2005 NJCAA national tournament in Hutchinson, Kan., and had four players named first-team all-conference.
Prior to his stint at CJC, Otzelberger spent three seasons at Catholic Central High School in Burlington, Wis. He was an assistant varsity and junior varsity coach his first two years and then took over head coaching duties and athletic director responsibilities in his final year at the high school level (2003-04). He also was a physical education instructor at the high school.
Otzelberger, who was born Sept. 17, 1977, was a two-year team captain at Wisconsin-Whitewater, where he earned his degree in business administration in 2001. He was named the teamís defensive player of the year as a senior in 2000. He earned his master of science in curriculum and instruction from UW-Whitewater in 2004.

I believe Missouri likes their Chipola product - he played better than ours head to head.

Mario Boggan wasn't half bad either.

Re: Don't We Have a Chipola Connection in MBB?

Maybe we need a better connection to Chipola...

    # 4 is Johnnie Harris signed with New Mexico (Alford)

    # Victor is # 1 in the picture...

The trio will continue the recent trend of Chipola basketball players moving on to big-time college basketball, following in the footsteps of Oklahoma State's Mario Boggan, Missouri's Stefhon Hannah, Iowa State's Michael Taylor, and former Ohio State guard Je'Kel Foster.
