Greatest win/Worst loss in ISU history

Please excuse the Walden days, wow. But I think the best win was the win over Pitt in the Insight Bowl, that was a huge victory. I would say the worst lost was probably the loss to UConn or even the loss to Okie State last year, I was so disappointed in the fan support and performance of the play on the field.

Greatest win that I've witnessed, vs. Iowa either 2005 or 2007. Worst loss that I've witnessed, either vs. Missouri in 2004 or vs. Baylor in 2005.

Re: Greatest win/Worst loss in ISU history

Best win: Iowa '05 or Nebraska '09

Worst loss (in terms of what was on the line): KU '05
Ugliest loss (biggest ***-kicking): Nebraska 1997 (77-14) or OU '02 (49-3 as the #9 team)

Honestly, the worst loss list could be pretty long.

Right up there would be the W in 1997 in IC. My uncle who is a Hawkeye season ticket holder invited me to the game, thinking it would be a romp, well he was right!

The Uconn football game has to be up there for worst loss. Greatest win was the Marv Seiler run game vs. Nebraska. Maybe the 15 game losing streak comes to an end vs. Iowa also.

Oh man, I had forgotten about that game. That was one of the worst things to sit through. Please tell me Baylor has since won another away conference game since then. Oh what could have been in 2005.

I was in school in the 80's and we got beat by Drake, Oct. 5, 1985, 20-17. To me that is our worst loss. Drake went to non-scholarship football the next season.

Yes, they won at CU in 2006 and at Missouri last year.

I was pretty young at the time, but losing to Drake 20-17 was as dejected as I've ever felt leaving our stadium.

There were lots of exciting wins leading up to it, but the first bowl victory in school history has to rank near the top for me.

Yes... talk about some gut wrenching losses.... Ouch. The Baylor game was difficult to watch and the Nebraska game had me on the edge of my seat until the final play of double OT. We were so close to do something really great that year considering our largest loss was a 10 point self inflicted meltdown against Baylor. I sat in the stands that day and wanted to puke. Seriously... how many times could we fumble the damn ball on the 1 yard line?

Edit... We fumbled once on the 1 yard line and once at the 19 yard line. It sure seemed like we fumbled about 6 times in the red zone that day though.

Of games that I have been at, best is 02 Nebraska. How many times has ISU actually dominated Nebraska? Worst loss either 04 Missouri or 05 Baylor, don't think I heard anybody talking from my seat to the exit after those games.

Re: Greatest win/Worst loss in ISU history

92 Nebraska was the best win I have been at, still remember Marv's run and my first ever storm the field event with my now-deceased dad. Ending the Iowa streak and the win this year at Nebraska are tied for road-wins I think.

Worst loss is a toss-up between UCONN and Florida State. The UCONN was just a kick to the lower area that should have never happened, while the Florida State loss symbolizes the close but not quite legacy that turns out defined the Mcpast (props to whoever came up with that) era of football and basketball.

Re: Greatest win/Worst loss in ISU history

Although this years Nebraska win cannot currently be viewed as the greatest win in ISU history I believe that at some point it could be. That win basically made our season. Without that win we would have no Insight Bowl victory. We would have only beaten NDSU, Kent State, Army, Baylor, Colorado. The Nebraska win legitimized the season. The youtube video that came from after the game might help us with future recruiting. The season brought optimism back to ISU football. The season that came from the win no doubt made ISU a more attractive school to recruits. If the future of this football team is as bright as we hope that it will one day be, the Nebraska game will probably be viewed as the spark of all of our future success will CPR.

ISU at Nebraska last year is absolutely the best win I have ever seen.
