Taggart helps put Memphis on top of ESPN's pre-season ranking

Just came across THIS from ESPN. Makes mention of Taggert being part of a very deep team (they lose no one this year). I'll be very curious to see how he does there...

Maybe he learned how to play defense with his season off...

I think he and Greg McDermott would've been a great match. Sadly we'll never find out.

    Good luck to him though.

I actually disagree with this. To be a good match with GMac you'd first have to give a little more effort than he did and secondly his defensive liabilities would have given Greg headaches. Maybe it was just Morgan's system but Taggart looked like a bust the 1 year we had him for all the hype that came with his 4 star rating. He had a lot of holes in his game and needed to add about 20 pounds to his frame.

Re: Taggart helps put Memphis on top of ESPN's pre-season ranking

Many felt Jiri was being lazy with his poor play. Wanting to play hanky-panky around the perimeter rather than bang around inside.

G-Mac methodically extracted that laziness out of Jiri and replaced it with a guy that seemed to like getting his mouth bloodied (see Baylor vs. ISU '07).

I don't disagree that Taggert did little with that great potential when he was here by seemingly not working hard and playing poor defense. I think Greg could have corrected that.

Taggert had a sweet shot and could've added some nice versatility to our offense.

I love how everyone just ASSUMES that Taggert didn't work hard... He has definately been working hard this last year because he is thicker than any one of our bigs.

I'm curious to see how he does at Memphis. I just thought he was awkward and unathletic.

Don't forget he was sick at the start of the season as well.

Re: Taggart helps put Memphis on top of ESPN's pre-season ranking

once again not trying to back him up, but he did lose 20lbs right b4 the season started do to illness with us, and i honestly thought he could be good, and when morgan was fired and gmac was brought in i was not suprised at all that he left, for 2 reasons
    1. Completely different systems, WM wanted his team to run and gun, Gmac is more of a half court type of guy
    2. Taggert always wanted to play at Memphis, and saw the chance and he took it

I hope the guy has a good career honestly, why hold a grudge?

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

I agree with TravMan... look at the picture of Calapari in the article. then... picture Taggart .....

Taggart is a prima donna and I just don't see that changing under Calipari. I don't care how much bigger he has gotten, he has 0 basketball IQ. He has no desire to play defense. I have never seen a worse attitude on the court than that punk.

Re: Taggart helps put Memphis on top of ESPN's pre-season ranking

I thought the kid was quite athletic and possessed some excellent offensive skills. He is long and rangy...Memphis has a lot of those guys and those type of guys win a lot of college basketball games.

It's easy to rag on him because he maybe wasn't what everyone expected in his first year and because he left...but the kid was seriously ill coming into the season and, let's face it, he signed on for something that dramatically changed when Morgan got the axe.

My guess is that this guy will fit in nicely with Memphis and their style of play. He will be benefited by not having to be "the man" on the team.

When will we see ISU on lists like this one Katz / ESPN put out...I hope sooner rather than later.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

Tags wil;ll ride the bench quite properly next year. He cannot run fast enough to keep up with the team. He is like Dirk Novitzki against the SF Warriors. Too sloooowwww.
