How does a conference like the Big 10

who hasn't been the best conference in football or basketball in YEARS have so much power? I know it's all about the money....so my question is how is that conference smarter than all the other conferences in getting money? I know they have a lot of viewers in there area to help get them on TV more. It just seems odd that a conference that probably ranks 4th in terms of success the last 10 years in football/basketball combined has so much power to completely change the way conferences are aligned.

Why don't other conferences see the success that the Big 10 is having financially and try to mirror what they do, rather than having teams leave to join them? Just think how successful they could be. They already beat up on the Big 10 on the field. If they improve financially they could beat them even more. I just don't get it, but I will be honest, I haven't paid any attention to the talks so far so my post could be idiotic.

Go easy on me fellow CF'ers

I know this. But my question is why doesn't the Big 12 or another conference do the same thing? Revenue sharing. I don't think that it would be hard to get a Big 12 network at all. Why not mirror what works for the Big 10 financially?

Re: How does a conference like the Big 10

To my knowledge, the B10 has always followed the revenue sharing model. The other conferences (B12) not the case and those that have the power (Texas) do not want the other schools to close the gap.

    Simple as that.

The short answer on why the Big XII hasn't done anything to improve it's financial picture overall is the moron we have in charge. The guy should be fired immediately.

Big 10 has huge schools as well. Moore students = more fans/graduates. More people spending money at/for their schools.

As it pains me to write this, the B10 is not as bad in fb/bb as we think. You can agrue top to bottom maybe not the strongest, but they have fball teams in the bcs games and their mens bball teams do advance in the dance. Yeah they play each other and all that but it is still a strong confernce.

The funny thing is now its all about market power.....but in 5-10 years when everyone has access to any game, anywhere....it won't matter where in the heck you live anymore or who has bigger markets.

I realize this. Here is my question. Why won't the president of the Big 12 make the change when he sees the potential for his conference to be pulled apart? Does Texas pretty much have him in his pocket? It is successful for the Big 10, why not do it for the Big 12? Who cares if Texas has to share a little, they will still have more money than anyone.

6th out of 6 BCS schools in bowl record the last 10 years. Only one national title in 10 years. Worst BCS bowl record as well in that time

Basketball they have had Michigan State and that is it. Haven't had much success in bball the last 10 years

Traditional Powers, TV sets, Big 10 network.. they were ahead of the marketing curve. Our conference did not care, because the conference TEXAS, makes bank, and doesnt care.

Yes, but I think its safe to assume that the majority of people will be most interested in watching teams from their area. While I'm looking forward to being able to see a larger variety of games, I don't think it will affect what conferences get the bigger TV contracts.
